  1. Ok just to add to the list... I had a runner steal home on me.. he was out.. and I had BI on a squeeze attempt, and the batter missed and got in the way of the catcher trying to retire a runner...I nailed that one..LOL
  2. My goal is to take the college exam which is 80 percent rules and 20 percent mechanics up here in Massachusetts. I have two buddies who attended Wendelstedt and found that the school is more mechanics oriented while Jim focuses on the rules. Myself I'm a rules guy and I've personally found myself being strong with on field mechanics.. Plus I have talked with Jim Evan's multiple times within the past couple years. The only response I seem to get from Wendelstedt is when Hunter has a day off. So those are the reasons why I picked Evans honestly. Nate Ok I got it... but what makes a umpire look better Knowledge of the rules? Or Mechanics... i will let you decide.. also about Hunter, try to remember he is a MLB umpire and is busy from early Mar til Oct... Evans is retired and does nothing but answer phones.... I can tell you that Harry's Chief Instructor might be on of the finest rules guys around, they break down every rule and how it is applied. i have been to one of Evans 5 days clinics.. I and Love how he teaches... But Harry's is a much better school... good luck you will still learn.. But I can tell you at PBUC we still had Evans guys asking Harry's guys about rules...LOL If you think about the amount of time the Evans guys spend in the classroom learning rules and taking test, rather than spending time on the field working on how to Umpire.. Sorry if it sounds mean, but I'm sticking up for Harry's..LOL You cannot compare a 5 day clinic to a school. Attend both schools then you can compare. I work with and know various umpires that have attended both. Their opinions are nearly a concensus. Evans is the clear choice. From my personal experience, great choice going with Evans. good point.. BTW how many umpires are in the big leagues that are from Evans? 1st good choice on going to one of the 3 schools.. but I will remain loyal and say Harry's is still the best choice to go if you want to learn how to UMPIRE not learn the rules..And one of my really good friends went to Evans in 10 and Harry's in 11' I can tell you which he thought was better.

  4. I thought he missed it.. the catcher never tagged the runner the 1st time, and by the time the 2nd tag happen, the runner had already touched HP..
  5. See more reason to go to Harry's.. Im glad I went.. Hunter is a good guy and you can email and ask questions.
  6. I have to disagree with you on this one Mike. It is entertaining to a lot of fans. That's why these antics make it to youtube. Come on guys, even as an umpire, you have to admit that Rome manager from a few years ago was pretty entertaining... The grenade toss? That was classic... I know the plate Umpire... that whole thing was crazy...LOL the PU never even Ej the coach in the 1st place...LOL
  7. 11 altogether... 5 in baseball 391
  8. Ump_24 i would never talk to both Manager at the same time.... mstaylor In the Minors things are different, let the Manager go..they get fined for Ejections, so he is getting his moneys worth.
  9. Can I ask why you picked Evans over Harry's? is this Nate Warren BTW? and I went to Harry's and have many buddies went went to Evans... I think I can tell you which is better.
  10. Heck i went to the Mid am 3 man clinic... it helped me through Umpire School and PBUC.
  11. why cant there be INT on ball 4?
  12. No i thought I saw a Clicker..LOL but if your assoc makes you carry one then,
  13. how do you know it is a Nike mask?
  14. Mazza, ....are you saying you wear a Champion, or a Douglas ?? Either I don't have enough coffee, or your post isn't reading right to me I wear a douglas.. heck i was one of the 1st to have on on here...LOL But I know umpires who have the champion, and love it.. and it works just fine.
  15. If your not is the slot, you are not int he right position to see pitches... where are you set up at?
  16. what is on your left hand?
  17. He is. Of course, it looks to me like the runner beat the tag anyway. The runners foot was up in the air...never touched home.
  18. I dont think the stance made a difference...that is just luck of the draw.... But I will tell you he should have been more in the slot, and that ball would have missed him.
  19. ok.. I work some pretty good baseball, and some some buddies who work the same and higher.. The champion CP will work just fine as well.. as long as it is a hard plastic and some padding on the other side, you will be fine...There is no need to go and spend 170 bucks on a platinum, when I got my Douglas guy on here laughed. I wear it in DI games and if I make it this year i will wear it in the Minors... it has less foam padding but feels 10x better than the West Vest gold..LOL
  20. Not sure if you can make it to Springfield, MO.. But Jason has a great Clinic and will teach you a ton that will help you.
  21. If any of you guys ever get up the courage/time off to go to Umpire School.. they will quickly I mean very quickly get the "dead ball" out of your mouth.. The reason we say "Time" to to stop all playing action, and to get the attention of all umpires....to let them know something has happen.
  22. 1..Catch 2. Out easy call
  23. It is Illegal in the set and the Windup.
  24. Actaully there are 7 times you can, and should change a call..OBR 9.02©.. NCAA appendix E ..
