  1. I've been part of it once. I went out, PU ran the loop, and RF gunned BR at 3B. It was awesome.

  2. Only 11 this year. Down almost 50% They must have cleared up everything else! 🙂

  3. In OBR I don't see why the runner couldn't return during the dead ball or after it was made live. He hasn't touched his next base, HP, when the ball was made dead. MLBUM "38. RETOUCHING BASES WHILE BALL IS DEAD Rule 5.09(c)(2): While the ball is dead, no runner may return to touch a missed base or one he has left too soon after he has advanced to and touched a base beyond the missed base. A runner may return to a missed base (or one he has left too soon) during the time the ball is dead if he has not touched the next base. A runner may, of course, return to any missed base (or one he has left too soon) while the ball is in play unless a following runner has scored. See Approved Rulings (A) and (B) to Official Baseball Rule 5.09(c)(2). The “next base” or “base beyond” in this section refers to the position of the runner at the time the ball went out of play."

  4. No play, but I did have it happen in a game last year. I was PU, rotated to second and then third, saw it was going to be a stand-up triple and glanced home in time to see my partner busting back and yelling, "I'm here, Jay!" After the game we both bemoaned the fact that he stopped at third.

  5. Who else needs to make sure their bags coordinate with their hats? "Coach, we are going to need a little extra time at the top of this next inning. I know we have a three-umpire crew, but John has to go to the bathroom. Yes, that means we all have to go." I would say that a coach will not consciously notice a sharp-dressed umpire, but good coaches will notice the ones who aren't. In my PR days, we had a saying: Your absence is noticed far more than your presence ever is.

  6. So... are we saying umpires only care about what other umpires think about what they are wearing.... sort of like .... women?

  7. Not sure what part of the country you are in but, I'm pretty sure in my state, they will not issue you a marriage license until the husband commits to a scheduled monthly quota of jokes that the wife does not find funny...🙃 ~Dawg

  8. It depends on WHY (and WHEN) the ball became dead In your play, since action was relaxed and the ball became dead due to a TO, the runner cannot return. In a similar play where the ball is thrown out of play, then the runner can return until he advances to and touches the next base AFTER the ball becomes dead. (FED has different timing on this aspect of the play.) So if the runner was already at third and the ball becomes dead, the runner can return. If the runner was between second and third when the ball becomes dead, and the runner then advances to third, it's too late to return (legally).

  9. The batted ball hit the ground. R1 returning is a tag play. The PU treated it as an appeal play.

  10. The announcers...the announcers...it has always been the announcers, it still is the announcers and it always will be the announcers. They THINK they know what happened on the play, influenced by their rooting interest and the source of their paychecks. This is a close play. This is a very, very close play. So, how about just TELLING us what IS happening versus what you SPECULATE happened? This is how this should sound, "Close play at the plate here. The plate umpire sets up well on this and...the call is out. Baylor now requesting for review so, we will wait a few moments here. And now, after review...that call at the plate is confirmed and...we have an out." That's it. That's all that needs to be said here. Just tell people the facts... ~Dawg

  11. It's very well made, and you can tell the D3O will disperse energy. It's unlike any other foam on the market. The hard shell is good, but it doesn't cover as well as the S7. The S7 overlaps the plates where it counts most, especially near the collar bone. It's very low profile, especially in the chest area. It light, but still substantial. It's a bit more difficult to put on compared to my S7 because the G-hooks stay tucked in the loops, so it's a bit like putting on a shirt. Maybe it would be good to pull one of the G-hooks out of the loop so it's easier. The bottom straps do get twisted, and the foam that wraps around the waist must be pulled back when you engage the G-hooks. The stock harness is good, so no reason to go aftermarket there, though I do love the UmpLife harness which is what I had on my S7. Overall, this is a CP for high level baseball, and I have full confidence that it will protect me where I need it. I still believe the S7 is the most protective CP ever made, though it's very bulky in its original form. My mods made it much more low profile without sacrificing much protection. I plan to wear the Enduro all off season, including 2 plates at the Area Code Games coming up next week. That showcase features many pitchers throwing mid-90s, if not faster. The problem is that they're throwing to catchers that have never caught them so it can be a smoke fest.
