There is quite a bit I don't understand here . . . but let me start by asking why the youth hockey refs were charged with assault.

Parent accused of pushing Seattle youth hockey refs charged with assault

Second, odd use of "youth hockey refs". . . are we saying they were officiating youth hockey, or are we saying they are the youth?  Yes, I know it is both, I just find it to be a bad headline when it doesn't indicate the "man" (and I only use that in a technical sense) knocked down two youts.

@The Man in Blue, newspaper headlines frequently suffer from misinterpretations due to their abbreviated, punchy and or punctuation-less format. Historically, this was due to the space limitations of print media.

In the digital age, this "style" of writing headlines has continued no doubt to merely generate clicks which have become a false flag for interest metrics used by content creators to leverage advertising revenue.

The "yewt" referees (RIP Fred Gwynn) are not being charged. Allow me to edit that headline:

After pushing Seattle youth hockey referees, a parent has been charged with assault

Have read in another article the dad claim he didn't realize the referees were kids. Like if the refs were adults it would be ok to assault them. WTF?

Didn’t realize they were kids?  13 and 14 her olds don’t look like adults. And like you said…. As if that matters. Tells you a lot about this guy.

@SeeingEyeDog . ..  I guess I should have included :sarcasm:

Also add in the fact that (historically) headlines were not created by the reporter/person who wrote the article.

My grievance is more with the sad McMedia state of news reporting and writing.  (I'll be teaching our newspaper class next year and am in the process of pitching a whole media arts program to be included in our CTE department.)

I guess I'll add . . .

:rantoff:
