ccs had just reviewed this and showed that this was runners lane violation/interference, I agree, and the video shows how the plate ump was out of position for the call. I can't blame him, it's happened to me when I'm expecting to take a play at home, I start with the "point of plate", then move to the left or right of the catcher's hip (depending on which side of the foul line he's at).

I don't think he went "point of plate" but he went 3rd line extended, which immediately put him at a disadvantage to being able to make the interference call for the runner not running in the runner's lane

The default move we make happens before we realize it's a force and can be judged 1BX.

Agreed,  I try to go point out plate, but as I said,  it's happened me more than a few times,  and it's something that I'm working on

You cannot tell me that PU cannot see the runners feet and body are NOT inside the runners lane there.  To me I could see from that angle where his feet and body are I know I could.. Bad positioning   No not bad but not the best for sure.  But its far from the worst positioning

1:27  is to me about where he looks up to look down the line

Here's a thought.  Plate umpire Jeremy Riggs has his eyes on the play at the plate.  When he then focuses his attention to the batter/runner, it very well may be possible that when he picked up the play visually, the base runner WAS in the lane the last two steps.  If that's all he saw, it's no wonder he didn't make a call.  Just sayin'

How about a quality throw (or lack of quality thereof)?

F3 had to stretch way to his left to try to catch the throw.  Yeah, it was right up the line, but these are pros, right?

Would you rule safe at 1st because a poor throw?

Wendelstedt, I think, defines a quality throw at the pro level as one that could have retired the runner. I think the OP qualifies.

Did BR touch the base before he was hit with the ball?

F3's glove made contact with the BR's helmet before he touched the base.

That’s not the question. It’s possible the throw could have hit the runner after he touched 1B. The play should be reviewable and wording changed or eliminated next year.

The throw hitting the runner is not a requirement.  The runner interfering with the fielder taking the throw is.  I would say hitting his glove is interfering with catching the throw.

Every play SHOULD be reviewable.  Either do instant replay or don't.  Picking and choosing what you can review is asinine.

In the slomo replay I never see a foot in the runners lane the whole way down.

/agree to disagree at this point.

Was it close yea but I never see him even touch the line before he touches the base.
