When I was coaching (youth rec league), we got an umpire one night that I'm quite sure had imbibed quite a few before the game.

I have been offered a drink before at an event I was at before a game and the looks when you tell someone "Nope sorry cannot gotta go umpire tonight"  

 

heh.. 

 

Then again there were nights/days when I WISHED I had a few..

 

But no I save that for medicinal purposes after I get home when I have been beat up by the little league battery.

 

I kinda wonder if the Umpire in the video had some bad reaction to meds he was taking?

Tangent but timely since it was just last season: locally we had a high school coach with alcohol issues. He was a constant issue (at his prior job too I found out later) with outbursts and no control of his team (beaning batters, over the line "cheering", etc.). The tipping point came when the coach berated the opposing sophomore catcher for chatting with his players post-game with a final statement from coach to player that he was going to "meet him in the parking lot". Ugly situation. I hope that coach got the help he needed.

I hope he gets the help before he gets another job coaching children. And I really hope you reported this behavior to the AD and the state. From your account, it sounds as if this individual already had his second chance.

Sad though sucks when people let something like that take control of their life.

It really is. The guy has obviously put in a lot of work to get that that position--Im assuming these are their 'best guys'.  Bad as it was I hope he gets another chance, and turns things around.
