@HokieUmp

Because I did not want to hijack the thread in

If you think its bad to wait a couple minutes to change a call on a balk/no balk in an inconsequential midweek game, try this on for size:

This is the same game the @Richvee has been writing about in this thread:

I shall say no more as the words use I do not use cannot be used against me.

From the pictures, that doesn't look like an easy diamond to get out of without facing the wrath of some angry fans. I think I would have required that the fans be cleared away before I head up those steps, especially after a call where you know a large contingent of fans are going to be screaming.

Definitely not an easy field to escape from.  Those stairs are the only realistic way out.

Wow ...... how do you change a judgement call like that ....if in fact, the stories are accurate

From what I can gather from people who have talked to the coaches,and people I've talked to who were there, there was no pulled foot, no swipe tag...just a bang bang play.....and all this right after  kicked ball out of play that caused a stir.

anyone pick up on this:

The eighth was an especially fortunate inning for West Deptford. Earlier in the inning,, Bener Uygun hit a shot down the left field line that was kicked around by West Deptford's Darren McKeown and knocked into deadball territory. Declan Devens scored but was sent back to third when umpires called a ground rule double.

If the reporting is correct, the player knocked it in to DBT,  if Devens was on 1st, shouldn't the award have been home?

it would be based on the time it went  out of play

based on your experience Jeff, anyway you see R1 not having been past second when a ball as described was kicked out of play?

Lots of people picked up on this, and it's being discussed in another thread -- as referenced in the OP on this thread.

To summarize:  If the ball had sufficient momentum (and only the direction was changed) to go OOP on it's own, then it's two bases TOP.  If not (e.g., the ball was nearly still), or if the ball was "gloved" and then taken OOP, two bases from time of deflection / drop / kick.
