The other night in my nephew's high school game, the offensive coach called time to talk to the batter. The Defensive coach asked the HPU if he has a free visit, HPU said yes and coach went to talk to the pitcher and the defense without being charged.

Is that really possible in high school?

Yes It is!

3.4.1 SITUATION B:

The coach of the team at bat requests and is granted time so he may have a conference with either the batter or runner(s). Thereafter, if the defensive team's coach goes to the mound to talk to his pitcher, should the defensive team be charged with a conference also?

RULING: No. When either team is granted time for a conference the other coach or representative may do likewise without being charged with a conference, unless the opposing coach or his representative delays the game by not being ready to play when the other team's charged conference is completed.

When the offense requests and receives time for a conference, they're charged with the conference (they get 1 per inning). So the conference isn't free: the offense paid for it.

Agree with Maven, bought and paid for by OC.  Good question.

To my way of thinking, an incredulous question. Would the OP not allow that in his games that were not high school?

Wow what big words!!!  It was just a question that was answered.  Calm down homey.  Good question because the gentleman was looking for the answer and was not sure of it.  Good to encourage folks to ask questions except of course for the know it all's.

There is one team's coach in our district that often goes to the mound for this free visit. He knows its only free if he doesn't stay longer than the offensive conference. Sometimes the O conference takes only a few seconds and the free D conference consists of the coach running to the mound to fist bump F1 before running back to the dugout. Its a real crowd pleaser and I chuckle.

There was just one big word. The question is, has he been charging trips in the any other games due to his misunderstanding of the rules. How do you spell homey and what does it mean in this context. I hope I haven't used any more big words.

I'm a little confused by your (Jimurray) question.  Are you saying you wold give the D coach a free trip when the O coach had a conference in NCAA and OBR games?

In those codes, the O can have a free conference when the D is charged, but not the other way around,  If the OP were OBR or NCAA, both teams get charged a vuisit.

OBR rule or interpretation cite, please?

I'm a little bit incredulous that I did not comprehend that the OP stated an OC. So I apologize to @jpperez for for suggesting that he misunderstood the rules.

There's a lack of a rule. FED notes that if one side takes a charged conference, the other side may conference as well. In OBR, there's no such thing as a charged offensive conference.

Thank you all for your response. I was just curious, I am not in the high school chapter (yet) and I've never seen it happen before, so I thought I would ask.

While your comment is true ........in the OP, it's free for the defense, ...and that's clearly the question

@labguy1971 ......... No,...I think you're the one that needs to calm down.   There's no incitement in Jimurray's post .......  Please don't make something out of nothing.
