While tis a sad day since the season ended last night, I take solace in the fact that I am already scheduled for 11 HS games next spring.

Anyone else (in the north) getting games for the spring?

Got a few here as well. The good news...All Varsity. I guess the clinics and evaluations have helped.

I was already told I can work varsity next season and maybe even a few plates. *slides sunglasses on*

This will, however, cause some tension among the seniors...

We don't get any assignments until early March.  Spring sports schedules aren't even set around here until the athletic directors meet in February.

That is odd.  My games are all PIAA.

Our HS season starts the first week of February and we likely won't get a schedule until the last week of January. In the meantime I will get to call roughly 60+ HS basketball games starting Monday. :)

The hell with the seniors. If you can do the job you should get the job.  I had an 18 yr old umpire from Japan who was in our HS unit last season. Got a lot of grief from older umpires for giving him varsity games, but varsity coaches loved his ability. I tried to convince him to go to umpire school because I think he would make it. Alas, he was only here going to school for a year. Had to arrange for rides and had to have schools send checks to me so I could get him paid.

Are you saying that you could umpire your own school's games?

Yes I have received 5 HS games so far and most of my college schedule as well. My association for HS started assigning games early starting this year instead of early March as they did before. Makes life so much easier since I'm dealing with multiple assigners.

Are you saying that you could umpire your own school's games?Yup. The guy in charge of our high school umpires quit the association without a word other than "Bye, guys." So now they're scrambling around trying to get umpires for everything and there's only eight of us, seven next spring because one guy's taking a season off for paternity reasons. Basically our association is about to completely fold and collapse and I wind up getting the small benefit.

Without sarcasm, that is the saddest most desperate thing I have ever heard in my life.

Our group is so screwed up, they've already assigned me (ME?) nine games for 2016, sending me contracts back in January 2014.  Advantage me, because I signed and sent them in before they got a chance to see me work last year or next.  Ha!

My schedule started to come out end of October and now almost full. Subject to change based on weather but many nj umpires already answered as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It gets even worse: I recently booked one league's games for 2017.

(I'm already turning into ventriloquist Jeff Dunham's character, Walter.  What will I be like by 2017?)

Yep. I've got games coming in quickly. Not thrilled with the Varsity/Sub Varsity mix, but it is what it is, and I'm sure weather and other factors will change the schedule a lot before April rolls around. @mhoffman - I don't think I've ever worked with you. How is that possible?

I'm a rookie to hs baseball just got carded last year. And work in Morris county so I don't get many games in sussex except for Lenape or hopactcong.

I do HS all along the route 80 and route 23 corridors along with Sussex county. So many schools along those two routes. I'm sure we'll run into each other sooner or later. Did a 18u wood bat game about a month ago at Hopactcong HS...What a disgrace that field is.
