Wow, didn't look THAT bad on the video!

Remember: F2 generally sets up on the corner or maybe a little outside for the 0-2 pitch. The glove clearly reaches FARTHER outside when the pitch arrives.

I'm a Cardinals fan.  I love Matt Carpenter.  But, even if you don't like the call, you just have to walk back to the dugout.  From the video you couldn't see what happened to get the ejection, but it seems to have to have been a magic word.  That's on Carpenter.  The pitch wasn't that far outside.

Bob attracts these situations for a variety of reasons. Gil could probably confirm the impression that he's toward the top of the list of umpires who eject people.

Does Bob forget to pack a razor on the road?

he always looks so desheveled ....even shaven (which is not very often)

That's one of the reasons...

I always think of the Charlie Manuel argument from two seasons ago when someone mentions Bob.  He got suspended after that one.

He baited Manuel, then turned his hat backwards during the argument so that he could get in his face more.  I am far too lazy to search for video of it though.

So yes, his reputation as an umpire who likes to EJ is earned.

And in his discussion with Metheny, his hat came off with his mask...tsk tsk.  I did think for a while that he was going to keep it on, though.

Looking at that video, I noticed that Bob uses a mouth guard. I know that they help prevent concussions. Does anyone use them?

Haha I just found it too.  I imagined the hat thing though.

wow do they let it rip in that one!! HEEE HEEEE

Yeah, Bob didn't want it to end either.  He was having a good 'ol time...

Davidson and Jeff Nelson are tied very early in the 2014 season with two apiece.

Since 2005, though, Joe West leads with 50, Davidson 49 and Marty Foster 48.

Since 2007, it's all Bob. Davidson = 46, West = 40, Foster = 32 (Wendelstedt = 32).

he probably carries on his luggage. Maybe the TSA doesn't allow them in carry on bags.

Nope.

Conclusions

The ability of mouthguards to protect against head and

spinal injuries in sport falls into the realm of “neuromythologyâ€

rather than hard science.32 Reading the original

studies cited as evidence for this effect reveals anecdotal

claims that can best be described as bizarre rather than

reflecting established medical principles. It is unlikely that

a mouthguard would offer effective protection against

brain or spinal cord injury, and the limited published data

are not compelling in this regard nor does it accord with the

known pathophysiology of such injuries.

At this stage, there is no convincing evidence to support

a protective effect against any type of sporting injury. This

is largely because studies with sufficient power have not yet

been performed. Absence of proof is not proof of absence.

It is critical that a randomised controlled trial of sufficient

power is performed to answer this question so that sports

clinicians can accurately advise athletes of safety issues and

the best means of preventing injury.

They should signify a Hall of Fame career.

As such, nothing. More than almost everyone else over a given time period, plenty.
