Full disclosure, I scissor. For me it is more comfortable. I feel that I am more consistent from this stance. I call strike will in the scissor and then stand to point. By reading several posts, I see that I should verbalize and point at the same time. Here's my question, should I call the strike while down, or when I stand?

If possible, I would love to see video of more experienced guys call strikes from the scissor.

Absolutely after you stand. Call the strike and show it at the same time. I have some stills of me but not sure what they show, been a while since I posted them. I will get some video of me in the cages this winter and post it. I spring off my front leg to a standing position and call the strike. I am a pointer except for a swinging third strike, then I hammer in front of me.

Sent from my C771 using Tapatalk 2

I would greatly appreciate any assistance. Do you call 3 strike standing? What about U3K, does waiting to stand give the defense an advantage?

There should be a separate forum for scissors guys!!! They can go there and bond and kumbaya !

I have strike three mechanic that absolutely standing. An uncaught third strike is a safe mechanic. It takes no longer than a box guy. When I say I spring back, it is literally that.

Shawn, ...

go to MLB.com/video and search for pro umpires who scissor, ...... Jeff Nelson, Paul Emmel (don't watch that mechanic though, lol ), Andy Fletcher, Jerry Meals, ...etc, etc...

Talk to my dad about it. He's one of you weird scissor guys too.

You know, I've only seen him work the bases. I can't remember ever seeing him on the dish.

@Thunderheads - I'll do that

Shawn, look at my post, I edited it, there are videos there!

@Shawn Franzeo, http://umpire-empire.com/index.php/gallery/image/221-dsc-0091/ The picture showing me pointing is where I land from my scissor. It is a single step back to my pointing position.

It's not incontrovertible, but I think this picture provides evidence that mstaylor has actually taken a shot to the nutty buddy:

It definitely looks as if he took one on that pitch

OK, i really want to try the scissors next season. I see that the front or "bent" knee is usually the outside leg, but on a left-handed hitter I don't think that I could possibly do this and still keep my balance. Is it a total no-no to still bear weight on the left or "inside" leg in this situation?

Really shouldn't, left leg forward of RH batter, right leg forward on a LH batter. If you don't you won't get the proper look at the zone.

Why do you want to do it -- especially since you seem to admit that you can't do it?
