I do as the catcher does. But, you are definitely correct in this video. I was a little early. It was my first time in this conference tourney. So nerves, plus good catcher had me a little early.

OK, i really want to try the scissors next season.  I see that the front or "bent" knee is usually the outside leg, but on a left-handed hitter I don't think that I could possibly do this and still keep my balance.  Is it a total no-no to still bear weight on the left or "inside" leg in this situation?

Why do you want to do it -- especially since you seem to admit that you can't do it?

Everyone has to start somewhere, right?

I'm sure you had every aspect of the game mastered your first time out.  Kudos.

Here is me. You can see it in the first minute.

You have a strong scissor but you go down earlier than I do.

This is fantastic!! Thank you. Maybe I should watch the entire video before asking the following:

Do you follow the same mechanic for U3K?

I watched a little more of the video, you are much better on RH batters. On LH batters, or at least that first inning, you go down sooner, it looks like you need to move your lead foot to the right about six inches, and your trail foot needs to rotate counterclockwise about seven degrees. In the bottom of the first the catcher blocked a ball and came up ready to throw, but you were just starting to move. When he blocks like that, get up and get your mask off so you know where the ball is. Your point is good but I would get it more in line with your shoulder. You are close but by moving up slightly, it will look 100% better. You tend to put your mask on with your right hand, you do a good job taking it off but then switch to put it on. Tell your partner,U1, that two steps fair in three man is not acceptable.

It seems that I did not make my comment clear.  I did not mean it as any kind of slight and I still don't have any part of the game mastered.

Seriously -- what is your goal in wanting to try the scissors?  Why do you think it will help you?  And, even if it would help you, it wont if you cant physically (or mentally but that doesn't seem to apply here) do it so you need to seek other alternatives.

I make compromises in my plate stance to account for my physical abilities.  It means that I get more pitches right overall (imo of course -- some coaches would disagree!) but miss more of a certain pitch.  Every clinic I go to tells me to change so I can "get" that pitch, but then the rest of my zone goes to hell.  Its a tradeoff I think is right.

@Shawn Franzeo, http://umpire-empire.com/index.php/gallery/image/221-dsc-0091/    The picture showing me pointing is where I land from my scissor. It is a single step back to my pointing position.

It's not incontrovertible, but I think this picture provides evidence that mstaylor has actually taken a shot to the nutty buddy:

Either that or he's proposing to someone for marriage!

Mike, I always thought that with the scissor position, that the rear leg needed to be locked, as in straight. I see yours is bent. Did you nutty buddy, on your way up, or what happened?

As you can see the ball is coming through so I am moving to clear the catcher.

Doesn't look like much of an effort by the F2

You turn your leg in toward the catcher, ever cause hip pain doing that? It makes it more stable, I tried it but didn't like it. I have seen other high level guys do it though. You also have the same hands on hips rest position I do. Must be a scissor guy thing. :)

Thanks for the compliments, guys.  No hip pain at all.  I worked the box (heel-toe) and it killed my knees.  So, I went to the scissors 10-years ago, or so, and I've been pain free ever since.  My stance just kind of developed naturally; I didn't realize I was turning my leg in.  I just felt stable that way.

I switched for much the same reason. Actually I changed originally because I felt more comfortable with LH batters but the ease on my knees was a nice bonus.

I agree, the scissor stance saves my knees. Non-scissor guys think I'm crazy ... They don't understand how my knees are better for not working the box.
