I'm trying to anticipate Spring games (March-May) in the Midwest. Some of those games can be very cold and windy so I'm looking for advice on how to dress to survive in those cold/windy games?

I predict a very harsh winter! 5'-6' of snow on the ground until mid June! Stay warm my friends!

Majestic convertible jacket for cool days. Majestic thermabase for cold days. Neumann offials gloves. Insulated underwear over your compression pants. Double up on socks. Hand warmer packs in your pockets. And for really cold days wear a black hood under your cap (not recommended for the plate guy).

I had a game this past season where it was around 40 degrees and 40-50 mph winds, rain/sleet mix off and on, and not a very competitive game... somehow they still played. It was the worst night of baseball I have ever experienced, playing or umpiring.

Of course layer up under: Jackets, long sleeve compression, maybe mock neck heat gear shirt if you have it. Gloves are huge. Wear those wraparound ear covers if you have them, those are big too. One thing that helped me out, and I usually don't do except for on the plate, is wear leggings on the bases. Even layer those up too if you can, double sock, etc. Try to cover every part of your body as well as you can.

Products I'll recommend are the Majestic Thermal Jackets for when it's really cold, either the Majestic convertible or any of the Smitty long sleeve jackets for cool games or even to layer under them. Find a good Nike drift/thermafit mock neck long sleeve compression shirt, as well as tights. (Or under armor heat gear/etc).

UA cold wear, Honigs cold gear, then the Smittys Mock Cold weather mock (All American sells it), then the majestic jackets. All on at the same time. College games in March in the NE are cold.

North face glove liners with Manzellas on top.

Cold weather hood.

Last Tuesday it was 85 and sunny at my house in Spearfish Canyon South Dakota.

Thursday it was 25 and we ended up with 4 feet of snow.

NO Baseball there.

Polypropylene under the UA Cold gear. McDavid head gater, a good pair of thermal socks under the umpire socks, a pair neoprene gloves and Majestic Thermabase jacket. Those chemical hand warmers are great too. These are more important on the dish. I have done early spring games in the 30's dressed like that.

I full disclosure I did exercise option #2 above and now live where the temperature is more conducive to baseball.

For me weather it's a plate game or a base game it's Underarmor cold gear leggings, Nike thermal mock turtle neck, pair of base layer ski socks under my normal socks, (if it's really cold I'll throw on the Gerry Davis socks that go past my knees for a little extra layer.) wrap behind ear warmer. If it's a base game I'll wear the Majestic Thermabase jacket and usually have on a crew neck sweatshirt on under that, Nike thermal gloves sometimes with some hand warmers in them. (really thin but extremely warm.) For plate games I'll throw on the plate coat and that's it. Don't like wearing gloves on the plate no matter how cold it gets. If it's extremely cold I will put on a second mock turtle neck on over my chest protector Dan Iassogna style but that's about it. Doesn't usually get to cold here in Texas but every year is good for at least 10-15 games that are under 35 and usually feel a lot colder with the wind chill.
