How much do you let him round the base before you call it? Some are saying an aggressive move. What is that??? So if he just kinda takes 3-4 lazy steps to second and lazily comes back to 1st then he is safe? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2

In FED no way I'm calling this as an attempt, it would just lead to a Sh$tStorm.  But his first step with his left foot after touching the base does look like a rounding of the base not going through the base in my judgement.  I think in a league that calls the slightest balks for anything, by the letter of the law Laz got this call right.

Aggressive is not required.  I can see how the call was made even if I might have judged it different.

I had a 15 y/o in a Babe Ruth game beat an infield hit.  He wound up by the outfield grass about 5 feet towards 2B.  He certainly didn't make an aggressive move, but I had him in no man's land.  I had an out on that.  The coach informed me it was not an attempt.  My answer was, in my opinion it was.  When I taught my kids to play, I always told them not to put an unnecessary call in the hands of an umpire.  If that throw gets away from F3, it puts the BR in position to go to 2B because he slightly rounds that way.  Just my opinion.

I'm curious what's your reasoning for calling this differently by level. Obviously I'm not talking about banging this as an out in an 8u game but what makes this more of an attempt in MLB than in NCAA?

Not so much a level thing, more of a crew thing. In 2 man there isn't much of chance I'm going to see that from the angle either in B or curling properly. However in 4 man, nothing moves me from A so that call is easier to grab. IMO

I'm not worried. I am aware that the expectations on umpires change as we move up, and I work hard to meet those expectations.
