  1. Maybe you don't get the force play slide rule, but you could make a case for intentionally interfering with a throw. d. The runner interferes intentionally with a throw or thrown ball, or interferes with a fielder who is attempting to field a batted ball. If a double play is likely, and the runner intentionally interferes with the fielder who is attempting to field the ball, both runner and batter-runner shall be declared out;
  2. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/11015874/tcu-horned-frogs-outlast-sam-houston-state-bearkats-22-innings 55 seconds I know he went through the bag directly, but this just looks so violent. He does not even slide before the bag, my first reaction was interference as well. I don't know the college rule too well though.
  3. Just watched the highlights on ESPN aka the mothership. A great call interference call in the bottom of the 21st at second base. Sam houston state was already storming the field, but the runner slid so hard into second he went through the bag and clearly made contact with the second baseman.
  4. Question on Mechanics on this play: If he interferes while the ball is still in the air, why does he not call him out immediately. Interference is not a delayed dead ball in this case, right?
  5. Had a long one to start the season out. 7 inning Varsity, over 3 hours and I'm in the field. 18-16 game. In one inning, there were 6 runs scored on 0 Hits. I swear I made 1 call in about 3 innings.
  6. I think he got him on the butt, but then again I love my braves! What do y'all think? http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=31086843 http://wapc.mlb.com/play?content_id=31086843
  7. Did U1 go out on this play? It so why isn't this U2s call
  8. It would be interesting to see the side view on this if anyone could find it. From the front angle it definitely looks like a good example of batter interference but Tim Timmons could've seen something else
  9. http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=30344747 1:47... Cozart falls over plate while molina attempts to throw to second on the steal. I think there's a good case for batters interference, but what do y'all think?
  10. And the article says virtually everything... Does this mean interference and Obstructiom will be reviewable as well
  11. I wonder if New York or the umpires will decide where to put runners after a call is overturned?
  12. I didn't see much of anything, maybe he moved his shoulders before he stepped off. I just don't like the way these people talk about the umpires
  13. http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=29652201 These commentators really pi$$ me off sometimes. I think in the actual balk, it was called before he stepped off the rubber. So probably making some motion towards home.
  14. Can a pitcher who has already faced a batter go out to the mound to warm-up in a new inning, then be replaced before facing one batter in the inning? I've always thought no, but have not been able to find a specific rule on it. Also is there a difference in FED and OBR
  15. You can blame part of the braves loss on chris Johnson for that. First off its a strike. Second it's the first inning. And third you're on a hot streak hitting and you complain about that. That really helps the team late in the game when no one else can get a hit and you're sitting in the locker room.
  16. Yeah I would rather hear it now, also!
  17. Thanks for the comments. With the crowd reacting and on a single pitch, I'll react faster with my warning in the future.
  18. College Rec Baseball Bottom 3 0 Outs. HT is called out on strikes. Catcher did not help me but it was a good fastball at the knees. HT erupted and Manger/3rd base coach says "There's no way that's a strike, that was below his knees" loud enough for the crowd to hear. The comment is ignored. He makes a similar comment which is also ignored. After the 3rd comment, I take off my mask hold up a stop sign and say "That's enough!" He pauses, contemplating what to do and says, "How can that be a strike if the catcher caught it sideways (and demostrates this with his hand)?" "You're Gone!" with a crisp ejection mechanic. Post Ejection was pretty calm other than him coming down to home plate to demonstrate in a catcher's stance how he caught it and how that can't be a strike, then he left the field within a minute. The crowd seemed to think it was a quick ejection, but forgot in the end when they won the close game. UE has definitely helped me with game management in reading all these posts. I felt confident on how to handle the situation, warn the manager and honor his request to be removed from the game.
  19. In FED no way I'm calling this as an attempt, it would just lead to a Sh$tStorm. But his first step with his left foot after touching the base does look like a rounding of the base not going through the base in my judgement. I think in a league that calls the slightest balks for anything, by the letter of the law Laz got this call right.
  20. Yessir! Good Call from Laz!
  21. Haha he could use a good shave!
  22. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120518&content_id=31623030&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb The situation looks very similar (they even laugh at the end) and it got Bob Davidson, another long time veteran, a one game suspension.
  23. OBR: R3 Out and R1 back to 2nd because R3 is in a rundown
  24. @blue23II... I want to make it clear that I am not calling Dana DeMuth unprofessional. I have the utmost respect for him. He has been in the league a long time and been privileged to work All-Start games and World Series. I am just saying that I think his actions during this situation could have been handled differently. I don't believe that any situation during a game should cause an umpire to get that emotional even if you have been working in the league for that long. My favorite ejection of the year is Clint Fagan on Yadier Molina. He may have just started working in the majors been he acted exactly as he should. Ejected, put his hands in his pockets and did not let his emotions get the best of him. I do not have the MLB manual, but this is from PBUC and I'm sure it is similar to MLB: "1.2 HANDLING SITUATIONS Handling situations on the field is a challenging aspect of professional umpiring. Umpires must keep the game under control and not exacerbate a situation.... 8. If difficult situations arise, it is essential that umpires stay “above the fray†and not adopt the emotional level of a particular player or manager. Every judgment should be made with common sense and knowledge of the Official Baseball Rules." With his EJ Report, obviously I believe he will write facts, but he will have to say that he pointed at a manager multiple times, walked towards him and yelled at him while pointing at him in close proximity.
