Advice on Plate Shoes

This will be the last Summer season for the GD plate shoes I've worn for a few years. Prior to having the GD shoes, I tried the Honigs composite toed shoe only to have a toe broken while wearing them. Before that I was a +POS low cut fan, and used them for many years. It's time for a new pair and I'd love to hear what you suggest. I'm probably going to go with a full or mid.

the new NB are great......ive also heard good things about the zigs if u can fit your foot in them (no wide sizes)

To me, the best right now are the NB 460s. They fit great and seem to hold up well. At least mine have. They are very comfortable and easy to get off and on. A major improvement from the NB 450s. They usually run $110 or so. Only available in a mid cut.

 

I also like the Reebok Field Magistrates (not zigs). To me, they fit much better than the zigs...and I love zigs shoes, but I was not a fan of the zig plate shoes. I actually sold a pair I bought and just ordered a pair of the older style off of ebay. If you are looking for a good deal you can find the older Magistrates (2012) on ebay for about 64.99 and that includes shipping. A great deal on a great shoe.

 

Can't go wrong with either one, but for the price I might snap up a pair of the older Reeboks before they are gone forever.

I like New Balance they work really well. They actually did an egg test on on of their pairs. They put a raw egg in the shoe and had a really fast pitch hit it and the egg did not break.

after many years of using the +POS plate shoes, I switched to the Reebok Magistrates,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and am completely happy with them................I wear NB base shoes and hear nothing but good things about their plate shoes....'

If I remember correctly the only problem with that video is they did not put the egg down deep inside the toe that is where the real test should be!

I ordered two pair just to have in the closet.  I just gave this link to a NB 460 guy because his 460's are falling apart.  The toe box is tearing away from the rest of the shoe under the met plate.

Going from the shoes you had, to the modern, athletic plate shoes will be a real eye opener for you. Enjoy the experience!

I like my Zigs. I went from NB to Zig mids and love how light they are. I've been hit one time since I got them but didn't feel a thing. They do run small in the toe area so if you have wide feet it would be best if you can try them on first.

Ordered on Wednesday, at my door on Friday-$0 shipping. The reason for the discount is because they are the models with the MLB logo on the metatarsal plate, but nonethless, an outstanding deal!

I love my NB's, and I see no reason to change. I wore the patent leather Gerry Davis, and I thought those were the best, but NB really does a lot better, in my opinion.

Update on my NB 450s: I got hit in the toe by a pitch the other day, and it hurt.  The toe was tender, swollen, and black and blue later.  I iced it, etc., and it was ok the next day.  But I was surprised that I got hurt at all.  This was a 12U game.  RHB.  Pitcher was fast, but not overly so.  Catcher whiffed entirely on the pitch.  Ball hit me on my left big toe.  My foot was pointing directly forward.

 

Maybe it was just an unlucky bullseye?  

 

The shoes fit me.  My toes aren't jammed in there.

 

Maybe the 460s are upgraded in the toe area as well as the instep?

Not saying this was the case, but something I learned the hard way. Make sure the toenail on your big toe is properly clipped. If not, a toe shot will drive the nail back, and really hurt, no matter what shoe you're wearing.
