I don't know, I mean there's coming off the base, then there's coming off the base! I mean we seem to make allowances for the defense when tagging the bag, ie. the "neighbourhood" play on DP ball at 2B, he clearly acquired the bag, and maybe its just the way he came up and repositioned his feet that would make me pause, If he overslid the bag and came off that much I'd have no problem banging him out. Not saying I wouldn't call him out here, just don't know if it would be that easy a call for me.

I was watching my 18 yr old doing a freshmen game last night with virtually the same play (B/R stretching a single to a double but pretty much the same otherwise). Not a peep was said - even by the crowd - except a couple comments about he needed to slide. Coach said the same thing when he came to the bench.

He's 100% correct.  And, of course you're not 100% convinced he left contact with the bag, you weren't right in front of the play

to speak of this same scenario, my partner and I had it twice last night. One in each game of the doubleheader.

 

We just shook our heads. And happily got our out.
