Appeals Court Affirms $775K Judgment for Injured MLB Umpire

Evidentally the Wilson mask used was deemed defective.

BTW.. This happened on 2005.  The wheels of justice turn slowly.

A large part of the case (or the article at least) seemed to be the fact that the mask came off... Isn't that what traditional masks are supposed to do? Transfer the contact off the head by the mask coming off?

Now obviously with a "concussion and broken facial bones" SOMETHING went wrong. But, again, isn't the mask supposed to flip off on hard contact?

My bad you're right. It was because of this incident that Hickox went to HSM.

Not only that but its the All Star.

Hickox was injured just a couple of years ago while wearing a HSM. Hit with a foul ball so hard that the HSM cracked. He worked one more batter, I believe it was, while wearing the Yankee's back-up mask, but left the game when he realized he had concussion symptoms.

Not only that but its the All Star.

Let's clarify this ........  he now uses the All-Star MVP4000 (custom modified by All-Star for Hickox) because of this incident.

 

Also, ...this is the second time he's sued Wilson ....

 

Once for a traditional mask (2005), then in April 2009 his Shock FX cracked into pieces, and had more ear damage, and a concusion and missed the rest of the season

Hmmmm.... Is onservation if this wil open up Wilson for additional lawsuits. I smell a class action lawsuit coming.

He was injuries twice, and has had 2 surgeries..Both mask were HSM.

Court of Appeals says first mask (2005 incident) was a "traditional" mask, not a HSM.

Both were Wilsons. Speaks well that he is using an all star now.
