I am looking for a good all in one location source on proper attire. For example what color hat (navy/black) goes with which shirts, what color ball bags, ball bags on both sides or one, etc?

Anyone know of one?

theres alot of good general stuff here but bottom line is if the guy who assigns your game wants you to wear a tuxedo on the dish and a clown suit on the bases than do just that

the color hat/ball bags depends on the piping color of the shirt. For instance: Cream has black piping. So black hat/ball bags (both sides for me. I never wear just 1). White shirt has blue piping. Blue hat/ball bags.

If you're asking about the best place to purchase, it's all preferential. I prefer ump attire. Some guys like Honig's. There are a half dozen sites. Google is your friend.

If that's the required gear, I'm looking for a new assignor!

You're safe. That's only required in NJ. Maybe Canada as well :fuel: :D

Thanks. The info on colors is what I was looking for.

I started umping last year for little league and hoping to join the local association this year to get some travel type games. Our LL does a lot of training etc so I wouldn't consider it the same as most LLs. I probably did 30 games or so last season mostly behind the plate. I am beginning to invest in my own gear and wanted to match the colors right.

While I generally agree with that some areas wear black with everything so the aspiring LL umpire who posted should really check in his area before he buys something he cant really use.

Please never, never, never :tantrum::no::shakehead::( wear Black Hat and Ball Bags with Navy Blue Shirts.

Besides all the special colors listed which in a lot of places can not be worn, you are looking at three basic shirts for umpires.

Navy Blue - Navy Blue Hat and Ball Bags - Navy Blue, White or Red Undershirt

Black - Black Hat and Ball Bags - Black or White Undershirt

MLB Blue - Black Hat and Ball Bags - Black or White Undershirt

Cream - Black Hat and Ball Bags - Black Undershirt

Of course you may also be allowed to wear Charcoal Gray Ball Bags.

If so they can be worm with any color Shirt.

Easy way to remember as it was stated is match hat and ball bags to piping on the shirt

That is solid logic when you carry your purse. IMHO it is simple, Black hat=black bags, blue hat=blue bags. To me it just looks better. As was stated in another thread, if you show up early, look professional, know where you should be and make the calls you should I will not give a hoot what color your bags are.

Back when minor league umpires wore navy shirts I went to a few games and noticed they were all wearing black bags. Good enough for them, good enough for me. And they match the belt that goes through them and I only have to own one color bag (even if I own about 8 of them). Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD

If you do wear charcoal bags, the HAT should match the piping on the shirt. Partners should always wear same color hats.

AHSAA mandates charcoal or navy bags, so I have both.

All of our hats are Navy for HS. This year, Alabama has adopted cream as an alternate color (with red/white/navy #s). Since all hats are navy, we are to wear navy hats/bags with cream shirts. Ummmmmmmmm, no. Plus, the state has also gone the way of some others and decided we must order shirts from certain vendors, as the logo style/applique' will change in a couple of years (KIRK, HINT HINT HINT!). So if I buy a cream shirt for HS (mine have black/white/black #s) before the change takes effect, I will be forced to buy new shirts in 2 years. Looks like I'll be wearing Navy only for a couple more seasons. At least until new styling is available.

Please don't tell me you wear Grey Ball Bags!  Hideous!!!!

actually, the two mandated colors in Ohio for school ball are navy (shirts are navy) and grey, with grey being fairly common. If it's the same fabric (Smitty charcoal bags with Smitty charcoal pants), I don't think it looks bad at all.

Just make sure your shoes match your purse and you'll be just fine.
