I’m proud to announce the publication of the 28th edition of the “Baseball Rules Differences,†better known as the BRD. It will be listed for sale on Amazon.com by February 14th, 16th at the latest. The BRD is the only complete reference to all rule differences: National Federation, NCAA, NAIA, and Official Rules. Referee magazine called it one of the "40 essential books" for umpires.

For those of you who may not be familiar with this project, here’s what the book looks like today. It’s standard book size, 5 ½ by 8 ½ inches. It contains 418 pages, 537 rule sections, 371 official interpretations, 58 authoritative opinions, 272 plays, 1335 cross-references, and nearly 2500 rule citations.

There’s also an electronic version, but it’s available only if you purchase the bound copy. Cross-references are “hot†in the EBRD: Click on one and go immediately to the referenced spot.

The famous Alphabetical Index now references the section number where a rule is discussed and the page number where you’ll find that section: incredibly convenient for research.

Here’s my guarantee, unchanged since 2001: After you use it awhile, if you don’t think the book is worth what you paid for it, let me know. I’ll refund your money – and you can keep the book.

I have sparred with Carl many times over the years, been on his side sometimes, but I have always respected him and I have always recommended his BRD, it is unequalled. For anybody that works multible levels it is a godsend.

Welcome Carl!

I am a huge promoter of the BRD and I will buy this years copy as well..............I reccomend it to anyone who really wants to have a "one source"......Carl's guarantee is uneeded, I cant imagine anyone not being satisfied.....

Just a question for anyone that has seen both........BRD or a J/R manual? One or the other or both?

I have the JR and have only looked through the BRD (I will own it next week) BOTH for sure as they are totally different books.

Apples and oranges. J/R is for pro rules. BRD is an interp manual explaining the differences between the major rule sets, OBR, Fed and NCAA. Carl goes to the writers of the rules to get the interps.

Both! Emphatically, both! The key to commitment of learning to memory is REPETITION. My opinion. Both include a lot of situations that you may or may not encounter in some form on the diamond. The more opportunities you have to review and prepare for as many situations you may encounter and learn how to apply the rules in combination with your common sense and other game management methods and skills will make you as good as you can be.

My two cents......

If you guys are buying this great book, how about clicking on this link Orion Academy - Asperger's NLD High School ,scroll to the left side and you will see an Amazon web site button. The school gets a small percentage of each sale through the Amazon web site. Take a moment to read about the school and the disability they help kids overcome.

I hope this is OK to post but I understand if it is not.

I have the '09/27th edition. Can I get access to the E version? Also is there an easy way to update my version or do I need to buy another to have it all up-to-date? Thanks.

Also I am on board with everyone else about this book, it is great! The alphabetical makes it very easy to use.
