It seems 24's post has been overlooked. There was ABSOLUTELY no need to go to the HC and tell him who his sub is going to be. He KNOWS who he will be putting in the game. Every EJ after the first one may have been avoided if not for the aftermath. Why are we suppose to go to the opposite side from the team that something just happened against. That is the one thing you should do differently from the OP.

This OP is a prime example of why and should be a sticky of what NOT to do after an EJ. Let it cool down before going and stirring the pot. He will come to you if need be.

Better visual. Tommy came to me in "X" between innings and saked a question. I got with BU who was keeping the card, and after I had an answer, I got back to HC in the vicinity of the 45' line, kinda halfway between the fence and the field.

I stand behind every single move I made, did nothing to instigate the issue or "stir the pot", and anyone who tries to twist this on me. remember, you don't have the benefit of the whole story.

I am not questioning any of the EJs, but I think this is a good reason for you as PU to keep the card. All changes then go through you. Don't think it would of prevented any of the EJs in this situation, but would of gone cleaner.

in our travel ball assn its typical for BU to keep the card. It's never been an issue, but had I had the lineup the question would have been answered immediately, so I agree that in this case it would've gone cleaner.

Around here Travel ball BU also keeps the card. Just what we are told to do.

Where do the rules say team personel needs to be? In the dugout. If this guy was never in the dugout, he was never team personel. The coach saying otherwise doesn't change that.

But maybe that's just semantics. There would still be several fun and creative ways to dump the guy! :angel4:

The group I work most of my tournaments like the BU to keep the card, but as PU, I want and get the card. I've got it in 99% of all the other games I work, why does the BU need to keep it?

About 3 yrs ago I was doing the 18U provincial softball championships. I was the BU in the final. The HT was down 2 or 3 runs in the 6th inning. The leadoff batter hit a pop fly down the 1st base line and in his frustration he lowered his shoulder and drilled the 1st baseman. I told him he was out and promptly dumped him. The HC went apesh!t on him, and told him to go to the team bus and he would deal with him later. The point of this story is that on my evaluation I was told I should have went to the HC and tell him that he needed a substitute for the ejected player. It was the only negative thing on the evaluation. I told the evaluator that I was pretty sure that the HC knew he needed a sub as he screamed at the knucklehead until he was out of sight. He said I still should have mentioned it to him. Go figure.

Tell your evaluator you will file it in the correct location in your brain. I don't think I have ever told a manager he needs a sub for an ejected player unless he is arguing for him to stay. Of course that's not happening so I simply tell him to just get a new player. Now I have asked who the player is going to be.

I have recently started doing some travel ball and haven't had any problems of yet but the TD I've been working for seems to be a little nervous about ejections. He says it's a buisiness and wants us to do what we can to keep players and coaches in the game. I told him I always do but when a they need to go they are going. That being said, I wonder if that is a typical travel ball mentality.

I believe it is. Sad! These TDs want the money. There are a few that have your back but for the most part they want the teams coming back!

Had a TD tell myself and Pete Jr, "Don't throw any of the coaches from (name of the guilty party redacted) out of the game". Pete Jr was cleaning his plate shoes and suddenly jumped to his feet. He told the TD " I can speak for myself, and this man, and tell you that we've never dumped anyone that didn't earn it, and we will not be told to leave someone in a game, when they have earned an ejection". Haven't heard anything like that from TD since....

I'm glad I have never heard that. I eject out of reaction when it is time to do so. I doubt I would even remember his words until after it is done.

Sounds like at TD's are us, that these potential TD's are being told by other TD's "that there is an easy way to make 20k. Run a bunch of tournaments. The umpires can make up to 5k per year working all the time while TD's can make an easy 20k. Tell the umpires not to toss any of the coaches. The ones who do, blackball them. The ones who don't stay and make 5k. Umpires are a dime a dozen. Don't let them ruin that 20k gravy money you are making. You got to please the coaches, not the umpires".

That's my take on TD's are us from some areas of the country. Of course, I am sure not all are run this way, but I bet some are, and I bet the TD's can make a lot more than the umpires who work all the time. Maybe all the umpires should just become TD's and make some nice jack and tell the remaining umpires if they want a job, just ignore anything the coaches do.

I agree, I eject when I feel someone has crossed the line. I do not consider who it is, what point in the game or tournament or who doesn't want them tossed. I have also said many times I have never considered restricting a coach, he goes or stays. I would be quick to tell a TD that I will not be following his direction. If he has a problem coach then he needs to grow a set and tell the guy that his actions need to be modified so he can stay and enjoy his tournament experience. It is not our job to coddle a manager because he doesn't have the sense or self control to keep himself in the game.

seems almost everyone on a diamond is a former something. "I played 6 years in Farm, I played college ball" blah blah blah. Who cares about an old geezer who is a "former" badass? Who cares about "former" anything?

And how do you know I'm not a badass? Not saying I am, just wondering. Maybe I am. Maybe I'm not. Nothing on a baseball field will ever bring me to violence, so what difference does it make if I'm a badass or not?
