I bought a Honig's single bar light weight mask in October of '09 and used it in about in about 60 games. I work high school and youth ball. I was working a high school game and I took a foul ball to the mask at about 70 mph. It didn't hurt, I felt fine but when I checked my mask I noticed that it had bent one of the frames on it. I know mask do that but I don't know if that is good that the mask bends that easy.

If I do purchase a new mask which one would you recommend, Im leaning towards the Wilson with the tan wrap around pads

I LOVE my Champro Magnesium..light, strong, not real expensive...

Wilson Who

Isn't he the guy who looks over the fence and talks about philosophy :blah

Cordova,

Not sure which Wilson you are talking about as you can get several of their models w/ the tan wrap-arounds.

As NWA stated, the Champro is a good mask that is a really light mask much cheaper than the titanium models. I've got one and love it, though the stock pads don't hack it and should be replaced.

My :blah

Diamond Featherweight is another good one.

But, there are many good masks out there irregardless of brand and w/o repeating alot of what's already been posted, there are plenty of other threads on this site you should check out, including w/in the Umpire Equipment section you're currently in.

Here are several that should help ya out:

Also, check the Umpire Equipment Review section...there are a few traditional masks/HSMs that have been reviewed in that section.

Finally, check out the reviews on Midwest Ump by Pete:

Not sure what your budget situation is, but all that should give you plenty to read and more than enough background info/data to figure out what would work for you. Did for me.

Good luck! :D

My champro had the pads switched on it the day I got...wilson Doe Skins are on it now...a bit of a tough fit...worth the $39 investment! The whole rig cost me $78 for the frame, $39 for the pads and $10 for the sunshade...not too shabby.

NWA,

+1

Same sitch here 'cept I put the Wilson two-tone wrap-around pads on it, along w/ a Diamond padded throat protector and Wilson sunshande.

masks are such a personal preference item.........you wll find equal promoters and detractors for about every mask out there....

yet, I have my preferences too...

I have the:

Honigs Single bar in Navy

+POS Single bar in Black

And yes, I match my mask to my jerseys........

I'll be going with the Wilson DynaLite when I finally order all of my gear. Ump-attire has it for $78.99 and has the tan wrap around pads. Add a throat protector and sun shield you're looking at about $94-95. Overall, not a bad deal.

And a fine mask it is. Those pads are what you're paying for and they're worth every penny. And they look great, too.

That's what I use and I love it.

:WTF

Har, har...LOL!

Ya know, some people are like slinkies...not really good for much of anything, but they sure bring a smile to your face when you push 'em down the stairs. :D

But, since you ol' biddies having nothing better to do than to nit-pick a completely irrelevant & inapposite point...:Horse:

Irregardless of the fact this is an umpiring website and not Miss Cuthbert's Anal Retentive School o' Socialist Grammar, I reckon the ol' aphorism, "a picture is worth a thousand words" will suffice just plenty:

:D

A Nike titanium with Wilson pads is a Wilson.

What gives? What about the Nike frame could possibly make it worth twice as much? And if the pads suck so much that you'd replace them, then why is the thing coveted in the first place?

:crazy::HS

I guess because it is a Nike....I will say that Wilson makes the best pads hands down. :notworthy:

I remember when my daughter applied at colleges she had no intention of attending, so that she could brag to her colleagues about all the great universities that accepted her.

That's in the same category of money squandering as buying [and bragging about owning] a Nike Titanium.

I admire Tiger for following his dad's wishes. Earl told him, "Tiger, I want you to concentrate as much as you possibly can on golf, and fu@k everything else."

And that's what he did!

I admire that.
