  1. NEVER give "an explanation" of balls/strikes. EVER! If he continues even the "discussion", never mind an "argument", between innings, simply dump him. The rest of the mess was the PU's fault for not dumping him sooner. Learned that the semi-hardway the other night. No more Mr Nice Guy. you learned that they are all RATS
  2. best of luck
  3. Why Why Why restrict when you can eject--if it is bad enough to be restricted then it is bad enough to be ejected. Give a warning then eject--it will make your job easier.
  4. if the ball had a chance to go fair and the BR touched the ball it could be an out.
  5. how can BU make any call on this he is not even near the play--plate ump should not make a call on this play(not his job as freedy prince said)
  6. must of brought a smiloe to your face
  7. SLOOOWWW DOWN way to fast. get a good stance behind the plate, see the pitch leave the pitchers hands , follow the ball all the way to the catchers glove with your eyes, see where the catcher has the ball in relation to the plate and the batter, then and only then make your call--sounds like long time ---done right your timming will be good, should take all of 1/2 a second to make your call.
  8. ok ok lets have "tin roof sunday"

    IFF again

the post said you where the plate umpire--you are the crew cheif --you are the boss have to make partner listen the best you can--after the game buy him a rule book and mske it a point to let him know the next time you see him that he is a Smitty.
  10. I watched it again and it was a hard slid but I think it is ok--you think not ; that is why they make vanilla and strawberry
  11. ALL RATS
  12. I might be in the minority but the runner did slid and the slid was below the knee
  13. Good luck with that. You're suggesting you go from C to B back to C on, for example, a groundball to F5 who throws to F3, who then throws back to F5 with R2 going to third? On the groundball you get to a good working position for the play at first, but all you can do is pivot to get the play at third. I had that play last year. Fortunately, R2 being out at third for the third out allowed me to trot out to deep right while the 3rd base coach was screaming "How can you see THAT????" Gooid Luck--but that is what you are supposed to do?? get to the first base side of the mound for the play at first then quickly get to the third base side of the mound for the play at third,; for the play at third stop to see the play then get closer to third to sell the call
  14. I think he was 1st base extended is because there was a play at first--home plate has to look up line to help on a pulled foot etc. etc.
  15. make sure the pants are pressed and shoes shined
  16. both you and your partner need to look up pitcher violations You seem like a class act, Spirit. you s you said both you and your partner missed the call--all I said was to look into the rule book--if you are going to be a umpire get some thiker skin
  17. both you and your partner need to look up pitcher violations
  18. you have the right to remain silent !!!!!!! use that rigth. If you do not say anything it can not come back to bite you
  19. the only thing I see is that you are not locking in--you plasce your hands behind your thigh--as the game goes on you will drift--try to lock your arms with your hands on knees so that every pitch you are in the same position.
  20. "one man because that is all they can afford" I say BS to that, one man is all they want to pay for. Next time you are at the field by "yourself" check out the gloves and shoes of the players and then tell me what they can not afford. Considering you have never been to my community, please keep your comments to yourself until you do. Yeah, some of the kids have nice things, but considering the only reason this community has real money is there is a major university, there is plenty without tons of money. I get to see the drop off when I work these games, especially some of the minority and poor Appalachia kids that play in the league. I am just glad these kids get a chance to play baseball at all.if you are so glad that those kids get a chance at play Baseball at all then why not just work the game for free--in fact why not do a whole season and just donate your time.

  22. rules you can read yourself--go to the best camp you can, NCAA/Minor/MLB umps are the best to learn from on how to work on the field.
  23. Just a reminder next time you pre-game with a partner and you are the plate ump--tell you partner straight out that "I do all the talking at the plate meeting" that will get you off on a better start and if the plate meeting goes bad; only you to blame. I think that's ridiculous...you'll come across as an ass to the 95% of partners who know better just so you can make it clear for the 5% who don't. And for them, they probably won't listen to you anyway.why is it ridiculous ?? do you not pre game rotations, who cover what, rules, etc etc, do you come off as a ass for pre game these things??
