larry--I do not go in a game thinking anything aboutv a coach, I just know that the relationship with a coach should be kept at arms length, their job is to win and most coaches do not care how they win, as long as they win. It is our job to play the game with in the rules, at times it is not how the coaches play the game. You could be the best ump for 3 games but in the fourth game he feels that you as the ump are hurting his team,, then you will see what a RAT is. All coaches want to win and at any time they can turn into RATS.

This is actually a good question. There are some new umpires here and may not know the answer definitively. Thanks for bringing this up. There are 2 situations where illegal action by F1 is penalized. 1) without baserunners you can not have a balk without baserunners 2) with baserunners WITHOUT baserunners, infractions by F1 are penalized by adding a ball to the count WITH baserunners, infractions by F1 are penalized by awarding all baserunners 1 base See my previous post for the different rule set varitions
