  1. I have ---A since the throw from F2 was cut off there was no play on the runner from first so no INT. I am now going to look for my FED rule/case book to see if I am correct--first time for everything
  2. I have a fielder making a play on a ball, and I have a batter/runner trying to get to first, this time they meet. play on.
  3. it is not softball or little league--- play on

  5. No disrespect, but just working a college scrimmage isnt gonna get you games... have you even called College before... what levels, have you been to any camps that Hiler has seen you? College ball is a different animal..I'm not trying to cut you down, but there is a process. College ball is a different animal..I'm not trying to cut you down, but there is a process. Not sure what your point is. Yes to your first question. You don't think a guy that's been to Wendelstedt's camp and now has a little big-school D1 fall ball under his belt should even send his resume in? You translated "send in resume" to "gonna get you games." I've seen Hiler give guys college summer ball games sight-unseen just based on their schooling and recommendations. Certain areas are hard to find guys for, due to travel and cost. Arik from this board and myself went high school ball -> college fall ball -> entry-level college ball through Hiler without pro school. This guy has pro school added on, so yes, excuse me for being positive and telling him to submit his resume. Just cause someone went to Pro school doesn't mean they should be working DI baseball.. and if you think that, your sadly mistaken.... I saw many of guy after 5 weeks of umpire school, that i wouldnt give JUCO too. If someone works a DI scrimmage you think they should be allowed to work DI games?..... Some times just by looking at a resume, yes you can get games... It just happened to me in my area. Summer ball games really dont mean much, its just a good cheap way to see guys work. Dont read into too much. I have a guy i worked with at a very Good top level DI CWS school, he worked a fall world series game... but no way in hell is he even close to working a real game. I strongly agree. I gave a lot of thought of attending the SCUA Camp in Houston. After seeing the big picture and taking a step back I decided not to. Perhaps working the fall Div 1 games filled my head with air. But D1 baseball is a different animal (rules, game management, presence, availability and flexibility). Hopefully I can continue with some fall college games and putting my name out there before I jump in head first. Maybe in a year or so I will be a better umpire and have the NCAA rule book knowledge as well. I am hoping to ease into the JUCO, NAIA and some D3 colleges around Texas first. One thing I've learned about the NCAA and baseball...its mostly about networking, who you know and your skill level. Pro camp looks good on paper but sometimes not on the field. you took the step back and looked at the big pitcher--my advice is to go for it will you have the good feeling about college, "no time like the present" go to a camp and see what happens, what do you have to lose.. If you think you are not ready yet , at the camp you will learn what you need to work on--GO FOR IT AND DON'T LOK BACK.
  6. where is the ball when it is first touched ? if the ball is fair then fair/if foul then foul
  7. I would say more in high school than in college--just keep working and getting better ; go to camps to be seen and work on what they tell you to work on in the camps , go back and show your improvement and your time will come.
  8. What the BU saw has nothing to do with it once it is 3 pitches later. At this point, it is about how to handle the DC and explain to him to get the call at the time it occurred. Going back now isn't good unless the PU lost the count. I would have a 2-2 count and wondering how do I explain it to not trigger an EJ if possible. More than likely, DC may be going if he wants to push it. I am also curious about the OBS part. And, if you meant INT, then I am still curious how this is possible and why it was allowed to go for 3 more pitches before being called. My Bad ment to say INT What I am saying is if there was a swing that the PU did not see then there was a swing there is a strike on the pitch. If the PU is saying that the swing that the batter made does not count because it was late--what is that?? A mistake was made either a strike was missed or a INT was missed, the umps have to fix it. If INT batter out r1 goes back to first, or strike three r1 stays on 2nd. You can not screw the team on the field twice because of ump error. Wow. You are stepping into a nest either way. OC is going to go nuts b/c he will say he would have done things differently if the umpire told him a different count. No way am I changing a call from a possible strike 3 only into a batter out and R2 goes back to R1. Can't go back in time once this mistake occurs. At best, I get strike 3 on the batter. But, I won't b/c DC had a chance to get it corrected by asking as soon as the first pitch came in. DC only screwed himself by not verifying after the first pitch what the call was. He did it to himself. just asking --it is our job to do the easy thing --or the right thing. We had a swing but nothing came of it --Why??
  9. Please explain the bolded statement above. Thanks. Ment to say INT What makes you think INT should have been called ? see my next post Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. if the PU was blocked and did not see the swing--but there was a swing and the BU saw it you have a strike. If as they say it was a late swing that was seen by both or just the BU than I have a skrike because if I do not have a strike I have obstruction. When the DC comes out to argu the BU should get togeter with the PU and go over what the BU saw.
  14. now that this horse has been shot dozens of time--what do you think jacket tucked in or out :)
  15. Your point? Sent from my C771 using Tapatalk 2 No balk
  16. to me if there was a runner on third and the pitcher fainted a throw , then a balk--in the OP the pitcher is making a play on a runner that started on 2nd and was going to third, the only reason the pitcher even looked at third is because of the action of the runner on second.
  17. IN NCAA AND MLB ==PITCHER GOING TO HIS MOUTH WHEN HE IS ON THE RUBBER IS A BALL ALSO OBR changed this year into a warning first before calling a ball. Thanks for the info--I was not aware of that

  19. My mentor, Andy Vito, worked the scissors exclusively. He was a short guy, about 5' 6". Once locked in, he never moved. Steady as a rock. Excellent timing, good strike zone. Yes, I agree that the scissors can be effective, and you are correct: not many scissors around. I believe I read in that In professional ball, minor league umpires are prohibited from working any other stance than the box. Maybe that's why we don't see many 'scissor' type umpires in the majors anymore. you don't see it in the majors because MLB is full of "anti-scissorites"
  20. not calling it at the level your working ?? why ? how are the players to learn that they did something wrong. Is it not a balk??
  21. like they say "balks are in the eye's of the umpire" or something like that.
  22. the fact that you have to get up is the best part, it slows your timing down--you get more strikes
  23. the advantage of the scissors give you the best view of the outside pitch at the knees--plus it looks cool
  24. good toss
  25. It sounds like you went fishing ,hooked the bait and got one.
