  3. Oh man this thread is a curse. Last night game was humming along got thru 1st ok 2nd inning VT has a close play at the plate. I saw the ball come into the catcher and the runners foot touched the plate a half second before the catcher got the ball down. I mean Bang bang close and runner was safe. Catcher named "E" at the plate I have worked with him for probably 4 years at least being behind him at the plate. He and I have always had a good time chatting and talking game and me dropping a technique helping comment or answering a game question for him. No issues, EVER. Kid has been a good catcher always improving and doing a good job. So anyway that play happens and his Dad says from beyond the fence as I am sweeping off the plate. " Don't worry E you had him. "G" just hates you is all." That comment made me stop and whip around to face him... I felt like someone stabbed me in the chest. To tell a catcher I hate them.. not just say "the ump" but called me by name. I as a LL ump do whatever I can to help shape and mold the catchers into better players so that you guys at the higher levels do not take the 75 to 90 mph pitches to the arms and other soft spots. I have never done anything but be encouraging and nice and "teaching" as much as I can be to the 8-12U kids ( usually by 12U they do not need it ) But man what a gut wrenching stab at me personally. The game ended up having probably 10 bangers and I know I had 9 correct for sure and I am 2nd guessing 1 at 1st last night. But its like I saw what I saw and heard what I heard and well I still would say he was safe at 1st. The next half inning E got a double, stole 3rd and then on a ball hit to the SS tried to make it home. The catcher got the ball and blocked the plate with his foot and E slid into it a good 8 to 10 inches shy of the plate the catcher tagged him out. Well the 3B coach ( the team Mgr) comes flying down the line hollaring about how could I miss that call. I showed him the point where his slide was halted and explained that he never reached home plate. He kept on.. at this point I should have run him.. ( yep I had a reason and I did not) Stupid stupid stupid... Cause the game got worse after that I would hear things about strikes and balls from both sides and then I hear E's dad from the stands in the top of the 5th they were down 3 to 2, a player from there team comes in from 3rd and the relay from right field comes in from that side the catcher having to catch it 1st base side whips around backwards and to my amazement gets the glove to the corner of the plate as the player steps towards home kicking the glove and then stepping short of the plate as the glove knocked his foot back. ( if the runner had slid he probably would have been in there and been safe. I call OUT and immediately E's Dad yells "Thats 5 bang bang plays in the game and you called every single one of them against our team." Hmm not true it was more closet to 10 and they went both ways.. but yeah.. I sat there and actually contemplated getting both Managers and standing them in front of that fence and dressing them down about Why Umpires are getting harder to find. And then telling them for the next 2 weeks they would be finding another umpire cause I quit. But I grit my teeth and brushed off the plate and went back to being behind the catcher... But I was close... Very close to just saying effe it. I can go get a job at MC Donalds and make 16$ an hour and take less abuse.
  4. Yeah 20 hmm well he did ok he started that last at bat with I am guessing 17 but here is the odd thing check this "NOTE" that is 2 sections lower. I wonder if that's a typo
  5. So 1st issue 2nd inning R3, 2 outs Batter earns ball 4 on a WP, He due to R3 coming home, albeit slow, backs up instead of going to 1st. R3 comes in just a bit late and the relay to the pitcher gets him OUT by about 6 inches. 3rd Out teams go to dugouts and start to get into the next half inning. The now Defensive Mgr. comes over and asks did that at bat count? He never got ball 4 but he never got to 1st? /facepalm.. Why do I get these odd ball things.. Sigh I talk it thru to myself. Ball 4 he earns 1st base. Past ball gets R3 out at the plate after that. Well coach he earned 1st base as far as I am concerned that concluded his at bat and he should be scored at 1st base due to a walk. Therefore the fact he did not reach 1st base because of the out at the plate does not figure into that to me. Next batter after him should be up next inning, Not him.. So that's how we did that. Was I wrong? Next issues #2 VT catcher catches 2 innings, Then in the 3rd they put him out there to Pitch ( OK legal so far as he did not catch in the 4th inning as it was not happened) Then after 1 inning and 21 pitches they put him back at catcher. scratching my head, only ruling I know of is that they cannot got past 40 pitches and catch ( or finish the batter that they are facing when they hit 40 pitches ) So to me he was fine to catch after his one inning out there on the mound.. /Shakes head, why is it always the strangest things in LL ? So anything wrong there on #2?
  6. "clear the mechanism" Yeah I been there have good games and bad games. I do feel it can and will vary greatly depending on what's going on with you just before you get there. I try to listen to some pump me up music on the way to the field to get me out of any foul stuff and usually it works but yeah somethings sometimes stuff will come back. ( PS I use "Welcome to the Jungle", It has another inference for me related back to my College Fraternity days during pledging ) But yeah pic something that will get you in a mind set that you feel is proper for your game. Me I been told to find something else cause I can get TOO amped up with WttJ. /shrug. Yeah sorry Im not a Kenny G guy or whatever you need to get Mellowed out but yeah I do need something better. So anywho I find that when I am having a game and I feel better about the game Yeah I'm gonna call a bad pitch and I know it. When I do note it and then let it go. If I make 5 bad pitch calls that I know I did whatever It does not hurt me at all.. and at that point where I am into the game the fence goes away. I have been told by a partner once "Jeez did you here the guy in the stands that said XYZ about that close one with the 2nd batter in the inning." Nope I will say never heard it.. and its true I can and will turn off the noise from the fence pretty dang easy. When I am "in the zone" I hear you though when your not there in that spot the fence can seem A Lot louder than it is. At that point I force myself to stay in the game and just let it slide off my back like water off a ducks behind.
  7. What is he doing pulling runners off the bases back to the dug out? How is this making the game shorter to ensure they win? what level of plays is this?
  8. PS what level of play is this? I mean at the LL level something like that would probably be heavily dissuaded
  9. I have heard of coaches telling kids swing at every pitch never "try to bunt for the out."
  10. I have noticed a major uptick during covid, however the local league and district have put there thumb on it hard and its is swinging back the other way very well so far this year.
  11. In my views of that video.. Damn real speed I thought he was swinging. Slow mo it looked defensive like he was trying to block the pitch. I do not know if that was reviewable. But damn being at the plate or at A. At game time I had a swing. Obviously replay tells me something else. But I have been told at my level. If you called ball and you have no one else its a ball. If you have the opportunity to go check because EH the pitch was a ball but he was close on offering. ( Enough to make you go crap did he?) Then yeah go check, you do not have to wait. Specifically if its a possible uncaught 3rd strike. But its to me about getting the call correct. Not about stroking my ego cause I think I got it correct.
  12. We do not do it until playoff start. I mean if someone said check that bat I would. I would also check a bat if it sounded bad. years past there were so many broken bats we did check them every game and tossed out several cause of cracks and etc. But next season they fixed the issues and they became scarce as that happened equipment inspections stopped happening except for playoff games and up. As to the coaches "knowing" if a player carries a travel bat with them. OH yeah all the teams I ump the coaches by the 2nd game KNOW who their TB players are and know if they have an illegal to LL bat.

    Mechanics

staying down.. "Ball" in my most Bass voice I can muster Coach " where was that" Me "Apparently not in the zone" I kid.. Me " Coach that one was inside but this is the only time I am talking balls and strikes to you, I hope you understand "
  14. How tall are you, what size foot are you? I get the larger size and they come up to the bottom of my knee cap or within an inch of it. Also I have size 11.5 feet in USA sizing.
  15. LL is a nightmare with this between kids playing travel or aau or cal ripken you name it each league seems to have its own bat allowance and LL has theirs. Ugh every tourney game we do inspect equipment. Season ball .. NOPE I ask the coaches at the meeting properly equipped as per the current LL rule book? I admit though Had one kid his 1st time up this year ( Yeah last year as 11yr old he hit dingers too) But after his 1-1 moon shot that went probably 300 feet I did pick up and look at his bat to be sure it was a USA stamped bat and had no defects. Sigh 3rd batter of the season this poor kid sees and at 1-1 B3 jacks a dinger that needed inflight meals. The coaches prior to the meeting had asked me if I was going to check bats I said season ball no I dont but if someone hits a homerun I will check it for both of your sakes. They both said that was fine.
  16. Duplicate
  17. And whats the difference between this process now and when you did it other than possibly the actual waiver? Most 12 year olds playing down with 10 -8 yr olds are going to realize typically WHY they are still in Minors. Yes its awkward but so is having a 12 yr old pitching to an 8 yr old.
  18. With the exception of the 1st pitch to any batter who is new at the plate, Any time I put the ball back in play. the 3rd pitch 1-2 or 2-1, 2-2 ( cause I like the way I sound 🤣 ), 3-0, 0-2 and 3-2. To note I do 8-10U LL and 10-12U LL with some 13U and BabeRuth tossed in there also 11U AAU as of this year..
  19. The fact that the criminal was smiling and laughing about it... Ugh toss him in the "special section" and turn the lights off.. https://www.facebook.com/osceolasheriff/videos/626903362638456
  20. @Mudisfun Yeah they removed the 2 coach thing also all teams are allowed 3 now I believe. That was the dumbest hamstring thing ever.. Yeah because you only have 11 kids you HAVE to send one out as a base coach... I mean come on...
  21. I don't get the rub. If a kid doesn't make the game then he is not on the game time roster correct? There are obvious things written about injuries so those would still apply correct? What's the concern with all 12 years are in the Majors division?
  22. EEK.... My God.. Now LL is of course specially at the 8-10u level an instructional thing. I always tell the coaches and players pre game at each dugout. Guys Play it like its live until I say OUT or FOUL. If you do not hear those never ever assume you are SAFE Early in the season I do the same with the 12U teams but after a week.. nope they are on there own and we do have some swinging bunts that coaches and players are screaming run run run.. So yeah these guys understand that. But if what happened there was in my game . I would have been pointing towards center field and moved to 1st base extended to watch for runner interference and just sat there like that with my arm pointed to center. I would not get back behind the plate, not until an out or a safe happened. Come to think of it that did happen at an 8-10u game for me about 5 years ago and well yeah I stood there pointing the batter stood in the box and the coaches were yelling run. he did not and was tagged out then looked and me and said wasnt that foul it was in the batters box. Even the coach tried that and I showed him where the ball was when the pitcher picked it up gave him the 1st base extended view and said what do you think. He was like OH yeah that is fair...
  23. Yeah in my 40's I realized my spirit was willing but the body not so much anymore. LOL
  24. find a used pair and try and use those to repair yours or just replace them all together?
