Tangent: I helped out a friend and umped a scrimmage for his 14U team on a 90' field (and first time I've ever BU 90'). Walking in with my partner (someone who stopped umpiring as soon as his kids stopped playing LL) I was quickly reviewing NFHS vs OBR ahead of asking at the plate meeting with ruleset they wanted. One of the coaches looked at me like I had turds hanging out of my mouth when I asked which ruleset they wanted. I'm not sure he knew there was a difference - and he should since he's a varsity HS coach. Made me shake me head since I thought he was more on the ball than that having watched him coach my son the last two years. Maybe he just seemed good in comparison to the manager.

Not surprised. Similar to how airlines don't make their money off flying and McDonalds doesn't make it's money off hamburgers.

Personally I find that the official statement and the OP's statement are identical in meaning but the NFHS statement is layered with about 3 feet of cow poop

I like it how you did it. Clear, concise, correct, unambiguous. It was a clearly a statement and not the invitation for a discussion. IF (capital I capital F) it can be done that way, I think it's a good preventative calming measure. I, doing LL with usually small crowds (and stands way too close), utilize explaining it loudly to the coach or between innings informally explain it to the fences (foul tip being the most common).

Does it have different notches for different numbers? It seems that it does but I'm not 100% clear. I manually notch mine for 0 on each dial* but was just thinking that having brail-like for each number would be cool. * I asked a fellow umpire if he did that and he responded "is a baseball round?"

Agreed when it's that pervasive. I was invited to do a LL Section Semi-final last week and both teams had instances of the kids (they are 12 after all) getting out of line. Both coaches stepped in so we didn't have to (though one did it a bit more - ok a LOT more - tersely than I'd personally like).

Have to wonder how many people were screening PU, OBC, F1, F9, BR, (F2?), that added to the situation and call.

I haven't seen this (fortunately). I will say I have respect for the teams that don't come out for a HR unless it's a game winner. They still celebrate but not like they won the World Series for hitting a 2 run HR in the 4th inning that made it a 3 run game.

Two added thoughts for those having under mask fitting issues: - I use a youth pair (left over from when my son was 10). First, thanks for making the new guy feel like an idiot. fwiw, I didn't take @SeeingEyeDog post as derogatory. I took it as him walking through his approach & thought process for anyone to hear (and that you may or may not have already done yourself).

Sharing my local LL's approach that I've found positive... We have no balls or strikes below kid pitch. You got 5 pitches (well "one more, one more" was in play) at coach-pitch or machine. Coach-pitch would then go to a tee. We are first and foremost parent or coach based. Each team gets assigned slots and they need to fill them, same as finding parents to work the snack shack. Yes, it can rough at times but at we also have the most "real" umpires at the District level (95% of which simply started out as parents). "Coincidence? I think not!"

That one ran through my head recently when I had 10Us almost do this. It was the Off 1B coach who started it. Folks get pumped up for All-Stars. LOL

Since the batter is out with the Infield Fly, no runners are forced to advance. Since the ball was not caught, any outs would have to be tags. (If it had been caught, appeals for leaving early would be possible). As described, the runner on 3rd base ('R3') advancing and touching home plate before she was tagged would be safe.

This is exactly the situation of my first balk call lat month (I've been exclusively LL small field). And the DHC made the exact argument that F1 stepped off first. Given that the pivot foot was still on the rubber, that was an easy "no he never stepped off" and didn't need to get into that the pivot foot did not disengage before the free foot moved.

That does give me new pause about being irritated when coaches don't help younger catchers put on gear (boy or girl, that concern applies). post pause... still think most of them are inattentive (at best)
