The Champro Mag is a great mask, and is actually sitting right next to my All-Star at the moment. If you're comfortable with the protection it gives you I'd say keep using it. I've only taken one decent shot to the All-Star so far and it just bounced right off. The All-Star is comfortable and cool, but is it worth $200 more than the Champro? Meh, probably not. I do like the concept of the blades intersecting the plastic plate on the bottom pad though.

@BT_Blue can we get a picture of the backside of the mask?

Sorry this took so long. I actually haven't used a V2, I've only had one in my hands once or twice. The V1 is heavy in my opinion, and I believe the three spring design was to reduce weight and eliminate that top spring pushing into your forehead on impact. @tpatience or @harrisonj23 might be able to shed some light on the V2.

That's a bit of an oversimplification. While you did quote the rule citations I sent you earlier this month, there are still instances where the balk can be "ignored" without the pitcher delivering a pitch.

Be careful not to warn coaches too early. I'm a big fan of "I hear you John, but we're not going to discuss balls and strikes today" as the acknowledge step. That lets them know that I'm not going to listen about balls and strikes anymore. But once you warn a coach, you will have to eject him if he continues. Following IAWE typically gives you enough steps to convey to the coach that he can't argue balls and strikes, and if it does get to the E stage you definitely gave him the opportunity to save himself. Also consider what your local association wants, because if they want you to issue a written warning before an ejection, you'll be in hot water if you jump from verbal warning to ejection.

What if the pitcher steps and does a double clutch, enough for a feint, but then tries to save himself and throws wild? Are you still killing it?

Runners are allowed to advance beyond their awarded base on a wild pitch or overthrow after a balk at their own risk. So award R1 second base and allow R2 to score. APPROVED RULING: In cases where a pitcher balks and throws wild, either to a base or to home plate, a runner or runners may advance beyond the base to which he is entitled at his own risk.

I'd suggest paying particular attention to your timing. I had a few of these types of games in a row then the next week I had what felt like an awful day on the dish. My timing was wayyyyy too quick, not necessarily in my signals but in my decision making on pitches. It got a bit better my next game out but I wish I hadn't let it get that bad. Definitely focus on not making up your mind until the ball is all the way into the glove, it'll save you down the road.
