  1. Shin guards without plastic would basically be the lamest looking piece of equipment ever. Like really who would wear foam shin guards. Ew. No. Lame.
  2. The more I think about working under this guy the sadder I get and the more lyrics of Impossible Dream I remember. "To fight the unbeatable foe, to bear with unbearable sorrow, to run where the brave dare not go! To right the unrightable wrong, to love pure and chaste from afar, to try when your arms are too weary...To fight for the right, without question or pause, to be willing to march into Hell for a heavenly cause, and I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest that my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest. And the world will be better for this, that one umpire, scorned and covered with scars, still strove with her last ounce of courage..." I'm already headed to Gainsville in August-a character building experience of it's own.
  3. Oh no no no no this is not your average run of the mill idiot. You weren't here when I posted about my original encounter with this sirrah. http://umpire-empire.com/index.php/topic/55620-and-you-thought-i-was-bad/
  4. Does anybody still remember that guy who got pissed at me for showing up to a clinic in uniform and then told me I was calling my strikes on the wrong hand? I just found out he's part of the high school association. And he's been made director of junior umpires. As of today, I am the only junior umpire. THIS MAN IS CONSIDERED THE PINNACLE OF KNOWLEDGE IN MY ASSOCIATION AND HE IS MY DIRECT SUPERVISOR FOR THE NEXT SIX MONTHS. "Mama, I killed a man..."
  5. Detroit, apparently.
  6. Those baseball lights in the first picture are hilarious and appalingly tacky at the same time. The fields look nice.
  7. Don't understand the hype on UE. Didn't feel any better to me when I tried them.
  8. You don't understand until you see them. I mean like he's a big dude anyways, but when I shook his hand it completely enveloped mine. I was like "woah" Then again I was like "woah" that whole afternoon. I dunno I just vividly remember him having big hands, and Marty Foster having a Starbucks Americano. Oh, and the moment of disorientation upon hearing Will Little's surprisingly thick southern accent.
  9. Barrett is awesome, isn't he? So chill. Big hands. Can't speak for Nauert tho.
  10. Oh my god. Big deal. Those remarks are made about ALL officials, no matter gender. Should he have kept it to himself? Yes. Should they be making a huge fuss? NO.
  11. 20 is really big. Even for shins.
  12. Well, I'm fifteen. I guess I'm no longer the Little Kid of U-E.

Well yeah. Even when I'm like 28. But now I'm not the LITTLE kid of U-E.

You'll be the little kid until someone younger comes along and replaces you.

  13. I'm called "Jeff" Damn, my town is small and most of those parents and players still don't know my name. You're lucky.
  14. We are called blue right?
  15. Now THAT'S funny.
  16. Oh I see why I didn't understand. It's dangerous because of the sun. We don't have that new-fangled feature in SEAK.
  17. In that.case, go to admin and say "we'd like to use the equipment shed for changing to avoid a particularly delicate situation." In my state, they're required to if you explictedly ask.
  18. In HS the silver one is illegal. Right but why?
  19. What's wrong with those helmets? I think they're cool...
  20. How big do we want this locker room to be? Let's say 600 square feet-the size of a fairly small apartment. We have one month to construct this locker room, in, say, Florida. So, let's hire an architect. We also need electrical engineers, HVAC engineers, a plumber, OSHA conforming simple workers, a roofer, a foreman, a building permit, hundreds of hours of labor, a welding team, a city advisor, and heavy machinery mechanics. Now we have a bunch of people standing around a plot with a bunch of paper. They decide we need piping, concrete, metal roofing materials, lights, tile, carpet, lots and lots of plywood, framing, beaming, tools, equipment, scaffolding, an electric route through the building, and of course, the furniture for inside. Now, after we've spent $200,000 give or take, building this locker room, we have to keep electricity, HVAC, plumbing, water lines, and fire protection up and running for the entire year, not to mention basic maintenance and vandalism repair from the inevitable angry players and community members. I don't think I need to tell you how quickly that's going to add up. Yes, it is asking for a lot. A lot of taxes, a lot of donations, a lot of manpower, and a lot of people actually willing to give up that much for this building. It's not simply a matter of "they don't like us, they could just put in a new locker room if they wanted."

The Naval Academy. They don't have a preference.

  22. Why can't we be friends, why can't we be friends, why can't we be friends, why can't we be friends.
  23. Our UIC wears these...I like the look of them. Won't ever wear one.
  24. Turns out a local politician is chums with my father...you need a recommendation from a politician to get into the Naval Academy...hhhhmmmmm...

  25. Wilson may be an athlete but working for the Seahawks is his job and he has to listen to his boss. Yes?
