  1. Jfc if @Majordave is going to be there AND cooking...just crossed one clinic off my list... The more I read about these, the more fun it sounds to skip school to go umpire for three days...and also more difficult to convince my parents to let me go. #YoungUmpProbs
  2. Only a couple in my area who have bothered. So here in Juneau we have 65 (me) and 8. In Sitka there's 45, 99, and 12 from what I have seen. Nobody else in Region V bothers. Not assigned, not regulated. You want it, you pick it, you wear it. LL used to but nobody wore uniforms and it was used more for pay reasons. Only a couple in my area who have bothered. 3. @ZebraStripes I love my navy polos kk they're cool without being bright, the Minors players love them, and when guys from brother associations buy them for me, it's hard to complain. Plus, in the winter I can wear them at youth bowling league night.
  4. I thought this was going to be about magnetism and osmosis.
  5. Saw my buddy last night at a tourney. He says "The Honig's box IS your shirts. There's a navy jacket, a red undershirt, and two navy polos."
  6. We've already got Kevlar in the chest protectors, halfway there.
  7. I get an email the day before yesterday from a bestie in a neighboring association that essentially says "there's a package waiting for you at the post office." So I send my father to go get it and after I open it I see two pairs of clean, pressed, almost brand new charcoal polywools. One base, one plate. Already hemmed just about perfectly. I flip, obviously. I send him back a message saying thank you and he says "Oh yeah, keep them." Then a few minutes later he follows up with "I sent you some shirts and a brand new navy jacket as well. Oh-and there's a box from Honig's coming for you as well. They're all priority and should be there soon." I have no idea what's in the Honig's box, so this will certainly be an interesting experience. Hooray for umpires with too much gear (and pity for broke young umpires).
  8. I remember reading about this guy when he was still in AA. Protege of Manny Gonzalez. Good for him for making it pro.
  9. If I play in a slo-pitch tournament tonight in which the umpire is one of my best buddies who claims to use U-E but whom I've never seen here, does that still count? One day I'll make it to a big city and a UE-ite will have to suffer me. AND my navy polos.
  10. There is no reason why stores need to be pushing school supplies this early.

We don't start until August 20th...and even then, I'm going to be in Canada until the 23 and get to miss syllabus week.

  11. I'm the coffee intern because I'm under 18. My hand won't ever touch the editing bay, which is frustrating, but I'm still considered part of the staff and this is a great way to break into better crew roles. It's called Pizza Masters...and you better be getting ready for geometry because, wait, what's that? I FINALLY PASSED ALGEBRA ON YOUR ALREADY SKY-HIGH PRICES.
  12. BOOYAH, RK's in showbiz! I was working an indie film last last. This morning I get an email from a New York based production team who does a show for the Cooking Channel, letting me know that they're going to be here in SEAK next month and they would like me to be a (CREDITED) production assistant. The $275 a day doesn't even excite me, do any of y'all have ANY idea how awesome this will look on my resumés?
  13. @kylehutson @ricka56 I only started playing Mozart because my mentor didn't like La Donna è Mobile and Roudeau (Sinfonie de Fanfares.) I'm more a Tchaikovsky fan but all of his pieces are generally too long or too loud for pre-games.
  14. @maven @johnnyg08 Somebody missed the point of that joke...
  15. -Wonked up gig lines. -Badly tailored pants, too short, etc. -Unevenly bloused/tucked shirts. -Mismatching jackets. -Assigners that don't get back to you with your schedule until the day of. -Those who don't appreciate a nice bit of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik in the locker rooms before games.
  16. If you find yourself as the guy with the low zone, just become the guy with the stupidly low stance too. (Not that it makes a difference but the kids think it makes sense.)

  19. Lloyd McClendon is the best damn thing to ever happen to Seattle baseball and if you try to tell me anything different than you're wrong because all Lloyd was trying to do was fire up his team, he just needed to motivate his players to get stuff done! AND THAT UMPIRE IS BLIND ANYWAYS!
  20. Perhaps it's not just the calls they appreciate, łamacz serc.
  21. I'm having a personal crisis. Do I respond to this as a slightly disgusted umpire or a rabid Mariners fan?
  22. ...the moms tell you between innings "I like you, Blue. You're doing pretty good." I checked my equipment bag for bottles filled with foil and Drano but apparently they actually meant it.
  23. So some guys in a neighboring association have been throwing around this story and I'm wondering if anybody else has experienced something similar. Apparently there was a not-so-great young umpire, like 19-20 years old, who was pretty fond of DXM. (For those who aren't familiar, Robotussin. WHY you would use that as your drug of choice beats me.) He'd shown up to a game on a trip and apparently did normal enough that they couldn't tell he was tripping until after the game but his preformance was still not great. Then supposedly he showed up to another game absolutely wigged out on amphetamines, like almost 150mg or something, got behind the plate, and called the best game of his life. Ever heard of guys umpiring under any sort of influence and having it effect their preformance in any way?
  24. Maven, this IS the "Off-Topic" forum...
  25. Got some sweet secondhand 15' Honig's shin guards and a nice Wilson mask from my Sitka buddy today.
