@boyinr was speaking the truth about the masks. The only thing I would add after owning and wearing the AS 4000 and Nike Ti, is that the vertical eye opening height is larger on the two masks that I have worn versus the Diamond. That is the one of several things that I truly enjoyed about both masks.

Mask Pad material to face PREFERENCE - leather vs pad -
midtnump replied to The1yankee's topic in Umpire Equipment
Starting to love the Honigs pads but I can't do a red frame. Navy shirt and the Ti with Navy pads, Powder Blue with black ZG w/black pads, Black shirt and ZG with black pads. I really need to get the tan leather honigs for the ZG for the black shirt too. -

I just saw that on their site. it might be worth an email to see if it is an error. I'm glad I snagged my navy set last year for $26. Wear it in my Nike ti. -
Mask Pad material to face PREFERENCE - leather vs pad -

@Majordave I too found the TW pads too stiff and didn't like the feel on impact. I am still a big fan of the All Star LUC's and within the last year started liking the Honigs calfskin pads. I completely agree about the loose mask harness, wear mine the same way. -
@storm13 My suggestion would be 1. new Schutt/Adams, new harness design, 2. Plus Pos, these first two gives you the longest coverage and cooler padding design/ protection. 3. The "W", see any of @MadMax dissertations on the "W" and last Champro, fixed padding can't be machine washed and the others can.

@blue32, the person that you are referring to was me. I had some material that I was invested in and made a replacement padding complete with a sports mesh incasing it for my champion CP. I used it in the last part of fall baseball season last year and thru the first few games here this spring. I was treating it just like normal right down to cleaning and keeping it in my equipment bag over the long winter months. Last weekend I felt some movement in it and investigated when I got home to find that the 1/2" thick material had cracked or split horizontally across the CP. Not a good sign. Cut it open and it looks similar to a dry rot split but without any brittle hardness in the foam.

@GerryB Good move. Several years ago i was working in the Tennessee district All Star tourny and scheduled for the state tourny a few weeks later. My plate partner never wore one despite all of my warnings and knowing I have like 4 extra throat guards in my bag at all times. He took a foul ball direct to the throat and left the field in an ambulance breathing irregular with some fractured cartilidge in the throat. He finally took one of my throat guards when he returned a few weeks later. Don't learn the hard way guys, the best $5 you can spend on protection.

These guys aren't fading.

I have been wearing these Nike Air turf trainers for five years and they are still holding up. No slipping issues on the baseball field, but two years ago I did go from a fall baseball game to a football game and forgot to pack my football shoes, and I slipped and busted big time on the sidelines wearing these.

Good move. As soon as you get that on and adjusted, the hanging look will go away. With the stock harness I was pushing on mine all the time, once I put that harness on it I never had to touch it once I put it on.

Get Ray's umplife harness, all star delta flex, or the Force 3 harness. It will sit high were it is supposed to and not move on you. You will not be disappointed.

I had this exact play just two nights ago. I was the PU, and I can tell you that I busted my hump immediately to get down close to 20' from 3B and hold to see how it developed. After a few throws back and forth, R1 is going back to 2B stumbles and falls while F5 is diving toward him. I thought I saw a tag, but BU is there shaking his head no so I held back on a call. R1 is up and makes it back to 2B safely. We were in position and all was quite from the coaches.

@Umpire in Chief If you are still looking for an equipment bag, Homerun Monkey is having a 20% off sale with the code laborday20 thru labor day. They have the large and small diamond bags and the wilson. The large bags are only $111.99 after the discount. When I plugged in standard shipping it was only $6.98 for shipping. Great deal if you or anyone else wants to take advantage of anything they sale.

Max, please PM me the pics. Actually my revised short term thoughts are to simply get some velcro attached to the foam and on my cp plates so I can go test it at a batting cage. If it passes, then proceed to the next step and source out a fabric. If I don't like the test results than go back and select other products.
-
I am seeking out the fabric now. I am also emailing the tech folks to see if the foam can have glue applied to it and what type. I will try to use a ribbon, edging sewen around the perimeter to hold the fabric. For the sample piece, I am wanting to velcro the padding to the plates instead of trying to sew the velcro straps on the foam to place thru the slots in the plates.
-
I received the sample material yesterday. Made a template of my existing cp padding and will be cutting out the material soon.
-
@MadMax is the Zero Gravity cp padding removable or permanently attached?
-
LMAO!
-
Just received a shipping number, sample material due to arrive 8/7.
-
It could also be off centered cutting on the padding, offline sewing, or any other visual defect that may not effect performance.

They are the foam manufacturer. There are several companies already buying their foam and making protective products for other sports, snow skiing is one of them. They seem to be confident in their product and are sending me two different samples at their expense. I learned today that there is a glove manuf. that is using their product for added hand impact protection in their gloves. I am patiently waiting for the delivery and then cut the material to fit my cp and get in front of a pitching machine. IF the results are good than see if those folks are willing to expand their service. The hardest thing to know at this point, is how many units they could expect to build in a 6 month or 12 month period. Any manufacturer will ask this question.
-
Update, I just had a receptive conversation with this company sales engineer. I am now awaiting shipment of two sample pieces that I can retrofit to my cp and do some live fire testing. That is all for now....

Thanks, LOL!
