Thanks guys, I froze, banged the out and waited for the Manager to come out and rip me a new one. It was the 3rd out and the manager did come out , but since his team was up 11-1 in the top of the 7th he didn't push too hard, or ask me to get help. I was fully ready to get with my partner and change it if I had to , and apparently I kicked it. I've never seen that happen, and I didn't see the ball come out , so I banged it, and 2nd guessed myself almost immediatly.

Ok guys here's the sitch. runner coming around third to score, the throw eats the runner to the plate. Durring the tag (which beat the runner before he touched home) attempt the runner slides and the glove is knocked(kicked) clean off the catchers hand , but the ball remains in the glove. Now the gloves is on the ground and the catcher fun les trying to put it back on . What do you have ?

Hey I know those guys . I wasnt there that weekend but i heard the story . saw the video and its been beaten to death. The moral of the story is everyone has a camera these days , watch your self yourself because before you know it you'll end up on you tube, and have 10000 hits .

Beautiful day here in Nor Cal . Clinic went well , I was one of the few choosen for a call back for tomorrow. Basically I'm a probationary member, we work fall Scrimages in rotations, while being constantly evaluated . Oh yea I get to do it for free too . Got my foot in the door and I'm banging it down. .

Honigs out as MiLB Umpire supplier Ump-Attire in
guyinaredhat replied to mw94's topic in Umpire Equipment
Wow lots of Honigs hate. Lol although I find them pricy , I've had excellent shipping with them and always had my stuff in a timely manner . That and I bought my first set of gear from them instilled some brand loyalty . That being said I am alway looking for a good deal and I will be ordering my next mask from U-A . I think if I do it this week , I am can still get a 15% discount . -
this weekend is a try out clinic for the local college group. Who ever impresses on Sat will get a call back for Sun. Kinda stoked, and a little nervous, but more excited then anything.

I wouldn't do it during the game. '-)

I like my " Silver Dollar": One of my buddies has a 1976 Dollar , I'd like to ad that to my collection.

You should not point at the ball. Doing so may alert the player as to the location of the ball. Just point straight down and let him find it on his own. good point(no pun intended ) Ill defin. modify that .

I bid on and lost the auction on this mask. I was a tourney and I put in my last bid between games n the my phone, I Think it went for 57 .
-
I tend to point if it's a whacker and the ball comes out. "Safe, balls on the ground!) pointing at ball I'll point at obstruction. on a rundown , I might point at the out on the tag play . "On the tag He's out!"

3 ejections total in my short , and illustrious carrer. Then I go and run into 3 in a day today. I feel your pain brotha. F Kin RATS.

I posted from my i phone, and i didnt notice the typos. it meant to say shut down the chirping.
-
Not that I disagree or agree with my wh my assignor said regarding how to deal with that situation in the future . I think his solution comes from a customer service , don't piss off the customer too bad . I actually agree with not allowing to be shown up and ejectable offenses deserve an ejection .

So I'm working a usssa 12 u tourney game . Lots of chirping and lawyer balling from. Both sides . I'm working the dish R1 and pitcher stops his delivery motion and I call a balk . I walk out to address the pitcher. shut down the barking from the DT bench and start to take my position when I hear my partner ejecting a coach. But which one ?? It wasn't clear of it was the 3 rd base coach or someone on the DT 3b dugout . The 3 b coach / manager starts walking off the field head down , but ohhh no my partners looking at the DT dugout and ejecting one of the asst coaches , who then goes off on me cause he just got dumped, and he's claiming it wasn't him and it was the 3 b coach . I did t hear anything, fron where i was but my partner sure did , turns out he got a little confused with all the chirping and we still do n't know who said the electable comment . ( something about reading the rules ) Partner felt bad afterward . UIC. Broke it down like this . If we hear something and we don't know who said it then we should warn the coach that any thing else said from that bench will result in the manager ejection because he's supposed to control his bench .

You mean Trout behind the mound .
-
Bad idea , I work solo games every so often and I worked a few seasons umping in the mexican men's league (solo) and I would NEVER call from Behind the mound unless I absolutely had to . When it comes to 1 man games keep your head on a swivel, and angle over distance .

Lots of good advice here. Twin Creeks is dusty and windy. The weather varies from cool/cold in the morning , hot during the day and cold at night and always windy so come prepared to add or shed layers . Get there early to get a good parking spot, so you can enjoy the comereaderie of your umpire brothers . *rolls eyes * Bring your light shirts , cream , polo , majestic blue , nothing worse then umpiring in dark colors in the heat . Shine your shoes , ALOT it will reflect well upon yourself I caffeine it up a red bull after #2 and #4 Bring a cool coin to flip I use a silver dollar . Don't f up Don't f up so bad your partner can't lie his way out it .

NJ batter just swung at IBB to raise the CA pitchers pitch count in the 6th and the umpire called it a strike .
-
The pitching rubber isn't beyond 1 at and 3 rd so it would be foul off of that .
-
Without seeing it the ball is fair. The second it landed in fair territory beyond 1 and 3 the it's fair. The line is drawn from the the front edge hat a if a batted ball hit the front edge of the bag.

It is elitist in the sense that that they want the best out of their umpires . they expect you to honor your commitments , work hard, look sharp and not suck .
-
Congrys on getting a good eval. NCTB is a quality organization which has alot of great umpires working for them . From college guys to current pros , former pros, and lot of quality guys from all over Nor Cal. You can't go wrong getting involve with them . They will keep you busy .
