3 pitch inning means the BU buys the PU a steak dinner . I think i had a 3 pitch inning working solo once , a lot of good that did me. My record tho, last year as PU I had a 7 inning varsity game, 3-2 , STarted at 3 30, back at my car before 4 45, a nice and tidy 70 min.

Around here a 3 pitch inning is a steak dinner.

See that's the thing, we work ALOT of games a year, and lighting is vary rarely the issue, and we both truely didn't know. We didn't hear ANY thunder and I know heat lightning and lightning can light up the sky pretty far away and if your not hearing thunder the actual lightning is pretty far away. So since I haven't gotten my leagues policy on lightning . What is your local associations policy on lightning but no thunder.

Lightning In some parts of the country this is a major issue. In my part of the country it is not. While we do have a rainy winter , thunder and lightning are never an issue for me . I worked 2 games today, and towards the end of the 1st and through out the 2nd game I could see lightning. But I couldn't hear any thunder. My partner and I got together and we didn't think it was an issue until we heard thunder, and if we heard thunder we'd go into delay. Were we right to play on?

If a ball pases a fielder and no other fielder has a play on it then the ball is live and in play. If another fielder ha sa play then it is interference and the runner would be out, all other runners would go back to their base and the br takes 1st.

Manteca, Ca Big League Dreams has been mentioned before. I believe it's a franchise cause they have locations in Las Vegas, SO Cal, and Redding Ca Concept is the same at most locations lots of fields , all modeled after current and historical fields . Well they use the hell out of this place and over the years it has become a bit run down. The amenities are ok albeit expensive, the biggest problem I have is that because of all the use and wear the turf has become quite run down. The fields have lots of "patches " on them ZOOM IN enough on the map and you can see the patches. Add in the great weather the central valley gets makes this a pleasant location in the middle of the summer. I live in Northern California . Baseball season runs year round these parts. Most of my games are weekend tourneys but I love that I can get some High School games during the week around this time of year. Plenty of time to spend with SWMBO durring the week.

What up broseph , sounds like you handled it really well. Although it did seem a bit easy , my experience is it never is this easy. WIth weird rules and bylaws and stuff that's not normally " in the book" I would just recommend make sure you are absolutely crystal with your explanations and interpretations.

Call time. Tell em not to do that and resume play. R3 No interference cause there is no play to be made. Can't award bases, because ball never went out of play and it was the offense who caused the mishap. I'll look for some evidence to back it up

Last week me and my partner had a pre game discussion about this very situation and we talked about the fed rule vs obr. I was working the plate and Damned if i didn't have a kidgo 1st to 3rd . As the ball comes in from the outfield the throw is low and away from the bag. The f5 is on his knees diving back towards the bag when the runner when he tries to leap over the tag. The f5 was on it, and ended up getting a tag on him in the air. Of course I was in perfect position on the rotation communicating with my partner . But it caught me by surprise.

If it was fed rules why did the BR get a single on the balk? If the ass of a coach wanted to be such a nice guy why didn't he try to return the runner who scored?

So I had some younger guys today, Pretty uneventfull day overall. In my last game tho I had r2 , base hit to the right center gap and as r2 is rounding 3rd he and the f 5 collide. I call obstruction and everyone just watches as r2 jogs it in as if he's awarded Home. I just watch as the entire team stopped play and watched him dust himself off and jog it on in. I was laughing really hard on the inside.

Not with me , if anything with a RH pitcher i tend to squeeze the outside on a lefty and call the inside pitch on a lefty, and the outside pitch on a righty. Righties get the right side of the plate and lefties get the left.

USSSA Tournys run maybe 48-50 weeks out of the year so there is always a need for quality umpires. Max games we get in a day might be 5 for a busy tournament but more like 4 each day. Umpires games are capped around 12 or less for a 3 day weekend and around 7-9 or less for a 2 day weekend. A 2 break 2 schedule is my ideal umpire day, but routinely work a 3 break 2 or 4 straight. This weekend we are looking at 2 break 3 and then 4 straight on sunday, 6 or 7 inning ball, 1.50 time limit, and run rules in effect ties in pool play but not brackets.

a mile is about 2000 steps, you don't think you walk bout 5000 + steps in a typical 7 inning varsity game as a PU?

Best way to maybe get an accurate reading would be a work a bunch of games while wearing a pedometer .they measure steps taken and you can figure out how much distance you cover in a game. And get some sort of average They are pretty small and inconspicuous, and usually they go on a belt . I have never done this but one of my assigners has done this and I think he told me it was around 2-5 miles a game when he was behind the plate . Sure you could use the Nike I chip app thingy but this is a cheaper more old school way to figure it out.
