  1. This is something I like to pregame. As a PU i want to take tags before the 45 ft line. Of course I probabkly don't want to take the tag if I have a r3, with a r3 I will try to keep eyes on the play in case my partner needs help. 1-BU should make an out call if he sees a tag. He may want to give a safe signal if there is a tag attempt , but no tag. 2-no problem with the PU making the call on the tag. There should be some sort of communication( eye contact, verbal etc) with your partner so we don't get 2 calls . 3. PU judgement on this one. But I would be hard pressed to not call an out on a tag attemopt and a runner who thinks he's out. My question is between the 2 of you how can you have missed the tag/no tag? One of you needs to make a call and own it though.
  2. isn't there a fraternizing rule in the OBR? Damn i left it at home, i will try to look it up .
  3. Wow we got it right .
  4. Ok guys I'm at the field , stuck in a rain delay and I wanted to get some input on a play I saw this morning. R1 with 0 outs Br hits a ground ball to f 4 The ball rolls up his body and into his jersey. Whatcha got !?
  5. Anyone know who the umpires are?
  6. Let me know if you are looking for games in the Bay Area.
  7. I worked 5 games today . 10u ball , only good game that didn't end in a run rule was the last one , and even that one wasn't that good. Oh we'll at least I have te 16 's tomorrow , and I get to work with a former milb /current college guy. I've worked with him before but it's always great to observe and learn from an experienced guy.
  8. Do you wear that HSM on the bases too ?
  9. If a coach comes out on you is it proper to make him walk all the way towards your position ? What do you guys think??
  10. Lots of travel ball in Texas , its warm and mostly dry there. it's just a matter of time before you fall to the dark side.
  11. Our hats say NCTB (NorCalTravelBall)
  12. The game on 8/25 at i worked on field 1 was the last game that day . We had A 6 pm start time . I was the pu wearing black . I also had the last 4 games on field 5 today (14U) . 1230 and 245 on the bases and 5 pm and 7 15 pm i had the plate .
  13. Ya guys been in the majors almost as long as I've been I've been alive. Wtf am I to comment.
  14. Good call, I would have liked a bigger strike 3 mechanic. seems pretty lacksidaisical.
  15. USSSA uses this rule. Yes it happens quite often, Except we don't play one inning our tournament company makes us play it out. No ties in pool play or brackets. I think it makes the game even longer. Usualy awa teams scores a few and then the home team makes it interesting.
  16. Umpires can call time out when unrequested. The umpire didn't waive a balk call off . It never happened because time was out , he didn't cost your team a thing .
  17. Man i could really go with both sides of the spectrum here. After a few minutes of thought I've come to the conclusion this is how i feel... a quiet quck warning? in a championship game with 12 U's? even fresh 12U's most likely aren't playing in their first OBR based games. As an umpire and a coach, I think a quiet quick warning in this situation is inapropriate. If you ignore one rule, whats to stop you from ignoring other rules, when does it end? What if he just blows through it even more blatent? then do you call it? ignore it? It's the rules that seperate us from savages.
  18. Oops it was today . Feel free to catch the replay tho should be up all week !
  19. 16 u championship @ 5 pm pst . Field 1 @ twin creeks . I have the plate . Tune in and offer your critiques !
  20. you get umps who speak the native tonguefrom the different leagues and associations the foreign teams play. Have each team bring an umpire to work in the tournament and things may go a little smoother?
  21. A quick fist bump on my side =lets my partner knowI think he made a good call
  22. This is an advanced one 2 fingers pointed at your eyes then imm. Point those 2 fingers at your partner ( I've got my eyes on you ) =there's some talent in the stands your partner needs to know about .
  23. Ok i think what is getting me confused is that I still think he thew to the wrong base. it's not multiple appeals its the same appeal. What if you have r1 leaving early and the players throws it to 3rd and appeals he left early? Also in hindsight i think I am over thinking this.
  24. The situation happened like this R1 and r 3 1 out R1 stealing and BR hits a fly ball that is caught by the cf . R3 tags and scores Throw from cf back to 1b is offline , the r1 is standing on first when the ball squirts lose and goes in to the dug out . R1 is awarded r3 Ball put back into play and the DT team F1 Steps off throws to 1st . I ask what are you appealing . Manager states that he thinks r1 was past 2nd and missed 2b on the way back . at this point I go over and let him know the way he ran the bases was fine and all was well and we played on . But for example lets say there was a gross miss of the bag ( cutting across the diamond ). And theanager had a valid appeal. The throw needs to go to 2nd right . Since he threw to first that's the wrong base would it count as a play ad then thy lose their chance for the appeal at 2nd .
