Dump this jacka$$ on the spot! He doesn't get to tell his players to intentionally hurt another player because you didn't call OBS. Send him home and make an example of him.

Why? His comments were not directed at you or the Umpire. When he asked you to dump him....do it! I wouldn't even make him give me a reason. My report would read he asked to be ejected and I obliged (if that's how you spell it).

My expoerience has been non-HS coaches don't know what a restriction means and end up continue arguing and getting tossed anyway. Because of the potential for additional penalties for HS coaches the restriction is a gift and they usually see it as such. For travel/rec leagues where there is no additional penalties I think it loses it's value. But what the heck, it's the TD's tournament and he wants it that way then he gets it that way. I restrict the coach, he keeps talking I dump him and tell the TD I restricted him and he refused to go to the dugout and I ejected him. Everybody's happy.

You may as well short cut the process and just ask everytime. Or, even better -- just have PU make all the calls. Sometimes when you are 100% certain of your call, it may still work in your favor to go to your partner to pacify the coach a little .... when a simple private meeting with my partner gives the coaches a warm fuzzy feeling. If he just wants a different call I will never go to my partner to pacify a manager as for the "warm fuzzy feeling" that's between him and someone else to provide.

When it is as the OP described where he dragged his foot and clipped the front edge I would say that is a little strange and could possibly have thrown his partner off. We are used to looking at certain things as we've learned through mechanics training and any slight deviation from that could cause us to not process the play accurately. I'm not saying every deviation causes a problem just that you never know when it might. Sometimes those slightly strange variations are easier to see from further away. I know I've made calls before where I wasn't sure, but made the call I thought was the right one because something threw me off. Based on the OP's later post where his partner said that fan and coach reaction caused him to seek a second opinion it sounds like that was the case. As long as he really was unsure to begin with and did not let fan/coach reaction change his mind, I've got no problem with it. In the OP the BU said he missed the bag and the PU said he didn't, I would be curious to know what the manager said when he requested that BU go for help. Fan and coaches reaction be damned. It the BU's job to get that play, no reason in the world as described for him to need help. Do your job. Far too many partners will get help to appease a manager to get him to shut up, that makes it worse on the rest of us.

What basis did the manager request your partner to get help? Your partner said he missed the bag, you said he didn't, that's not additional information that's a different opinion. Who's to say he wasn't right the first time. From "A" I can't really invision a situation where I'm going for help. Anything that happens I can take a read lean/step and see everything. Yes we want to get the call right but that's why I'm positioned where I am. Unless the manager has something other than "can you get help" I will NEVER ask my partner if he has a different opinion. Getting help is for when the manager (or I) thinks I have a rule wrong/ getting blocked out etc. Not much is going to happen at 1st like that.

I think that's a mistake. Just direct him to your partner and let him tell the mgr what he had. If you think your partner isn't equipped to handle it then maybe it's because his partners keep covering for him and not letting him develop that skill. When I've working with new/young partners I pregame a signal that when they've reached a point where they don't know what to do or say give the signal and I'll come over and end it but they have to learn to handle a coach at some point. This isn't nipping anything in the bud it's developing bad habits. By coming to you the coach is trying to drive a wedge between you and the only friend you have out there. Personally if a coach goes to my partner on a call I made I get unhappy with the coach and also my partner for talking to him because it looks bad on me.

I will go to my partner if I think he has ADDITIONAL information ie pulled foot, something that I was blocked from. I won't go for help to see if he has DIFFERENT information or opinion (judgement). Coaches want you to go for a different opinion and that answer my friends is a big fat no!

Honigs has short sleeve Mock Turtlenecks that I've worn for a couple of years and haven't stretched out. They are not compression.

First time he asks I'll answer him. If he asks again fairly soon I'll tell F2 to let him know between innings. I ignore the next request then if he continues I'll move right to @maven 's 5 step process but I'll start at step 4. I also won't fall for that "I'm talking to my catcher" horse$hit.

JV game VT won 3-2 full 7 innings 1:18. I called lots of strikes, they swung the bats and the defense made plays, just like it's supposed to be!

R2 has not touched the plate when he slaps the ball out of F2's glove, so he is not a "teammate" or "retired runner." Makes sense.

For Fed: The OBS grants R2 home the slap gets INT by a retired runner, BR out. Then again I could be way off as I have been more and more lately.

I worked with a D1 umpire (with Regional experience) and that was one thing he pointed out on me was my head height. He said if I want to move up, my chin needs to come down to the top of the catchers head.

I have the All Star 1000, love the shin part but hate the ankle protection (or lack there of). If you normally see 90's I might be hesitant because of the ankle. What about the Douglas guards?

I agree with everybody, the crew must get together (crew only) and come to a decision. Then break the huddle and explain it to the managers. The part I will focus on is toward the end of the video the DM comes charging on the field and into the crew huddle pointing wildly at LF and 3rd. At that point I quit explaining the decision and start calming the manager down, I'm not discussing ANYTHING with him until he stops gesturing. Once he gets under control, I explain our decision and like @ricka56 says "I know we could have handled it better, but in the end, we got the call right. We need to get back to baseball now".

Let me preface this with I'm not a lawyer or law enforcement officer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once. If the coach tells me this and I warn but not EJ, then F4 does get punched or hit and is injured, broken jaw, teeth knocked out, broken orbital socket etc. there WILL be a lawsuit and I will be deposed. When asked what happened and I say the coach told me he was going to do that, am I now negligent? I dont' know. But if I EJ the coach and warn the team and it happens, what else could I have done, now the coach is being sued and I think I would be ok. Maybe others with legal expertise can answer better. So my answer is dump him and warn the benches.

I've signed up for 2 clinics, reading the CCA Manual to learn 3-Man and working some 3 man with partners that know it (which means I jump on a 2 man crew and work for free). Trying to get in better shape.

@MidAmUmp PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE! Your post are helpful. Sometimes these forums devolve into arguments, pi$$ing matches and fashion shows and sometimes that's fun but that shouldn't keep us from what's really important, learning. Remember when panning for gold you have to move a lot of dirt to find that one nugget, but's when you do it's worth it.
