It's good to see Hunter (Wendelstedt, for those who don't follow) back on the field as a full participant. I see he's wearing a hardhat ("skullcap") on the bases. I suppose it's good to be preventative. I wonder if anyone's called / been calling him a sissy, and if any supervisors are telling him "It's a bad look." 🙄 #WearWhatYouNeedTo

Guys....(and gals).... This is an embarrassing post that I can only make with the anonymity of an online forum... I don't know how to tie my shoes. I'm not joking... I used the SSK Velcros for a couple years, and the New Balance hidden shoelace pouch for a couple years as well. It's been...maybe 6 or 7 years since I've had to actually tie normal plate shoes and figure out how to hide the laces, or the procedure for tieing them. So, instead of learning...I want to come up with other fun solutions. 🤷‍♂️ One is to grab some epoxy, and place a couple of buttons under the metatarsal flap. One on the inside of the foot, and one on the outside. So I can tie the shoe, and button the flap down. I'm not positive which epoxy/button combo would work on the outside leather of the shoe, and the underside of the fabric of the metatarsal flap. Thoughts? The other is doing the same thing with some type of industrial strength magnets. I'm a bit fearful of the weight that 4 strong magnets would add to the shoe. These are pretty light, so I'm not terribly concerned, but I think the buttons might be a better option. My fear of that is if the shoe gets hit hard enough, could it bend the button? Then who knows if it will ever unbutton or button together again. Anyways...ideas? Where my fingers are is roughly where I'd put the button. One on the inside of the metatarsal flap, and one on the shoe itself.

How timely. Not to be too preachy but if you have a PU partner that is knocked out cold on a pitch, you do not allow him to continue the game. First, go single. At a minumum, take the plate if your partner is a stubburn fool. Take his spot. As an board, mandate your concussion protocol for members and remove assignments for ones not following it. As a umpire conference/state association, do the same. Mandate teams report umpire concussions to state associations. Maybe allow on-site team trainers to make the decision of removing the umpire in this situation. Independent contrators? Who cares if one's brain is involved, especially older concussiees. Get them off of the field. Seems like common sense to me, IDK. Rant (personal feelings for a real situation that I found out about last night): You are such a FF PD that you wont complete a game by yourself, when your partner sustained a concussion. Take the selfish cape off and do what is right for someone else. And you wonder why and complain you dont get plum assignments after not giving two pucks about your partners. No one wants to work a game with you because they expect to have to cover your ass. Been there, done that. Rant off.

neat thought. i would think, (i try not to and cannot anyway) hope that with the knowledge over the years of C2 to C5 injuries, L5-L6 injuries, and head and concussion injuries (much like (Eric Lindros syndrome), that the years of injury/equipment verbal bullying over types of protective equipment choices are over. But, you never know. Maybe the ones left that do so, are the guys who have never wear/worn a cup (and there may have been sissyfication over the (new banana type cups) in the day or steal (or more up to date materials) toe plate shoes in their life. now, for that red ball bag (only seen that once at a little league field) choice to wear or not wear and possible verbal bullying, sissyfication, wuss, the look, etc, or at least a ribbing for it, i have no idea. And for that ribbing of, in the American League they do this mechanic, ie straddle the foul line, but in the Big Leagues we do this mechanic, ie both feet in foul, you would think the merger of the 2 Leagues took care of that verbal exchange 25 1/2 roughly years ago. Personally, i would say that the clicker/indicator that doesn't click look, ie rubber band look to keep the count passes muster from the hardliners, home owners association types, etc., maybe Wegner should try it, (how come no one busted on him for missing the count the other week), then the helmet on the bases look should easily fly.

You're on the right track, but I wouldn't use epoxy. Instead, get heavy duty rivet-style buttons, in black, that are used on tarps, tackle, or blue jeans. The inside of the of button will be flush, so it won't affect your foot. The outside of the button, especially if it's black, won't be noticeable. Your shoes are (p)leather construct – just drill or punch a hole to pass the stud through, and follow the installation directions. Buttons will hold a lot more effectively than magnets, due to the running you will undoubtedly do. And despite having tenacious epoxy, the wet and the dirt and the constant movement will loosen the adhesive up. Or worse, you'll find the button / magnet will wear out around the epoxy.

To be clear, if the defense got ONE out on the play, then I wouldn't advocate invoking IFF after the fact. It's one out either way. But to answer your question, I would place runners where they would have ended up if the IFF was declared.

I suppose an argument could be made that IFF should have been called regardless of the eventual outcome. @Velho makes some good points about how ordinary effort should be determined.

To me, this is the only question I have. If it was wind-induced, I have no IFF, all live action stands. If it was not wind-induced, I have the batter out on IFF (outcome does not matter for him, and sadly, neither does the catcher's particularly bad read and poor performance). I have the runners staying put, as it is not a dead ball, and runners advance at their own peril.
