Ok My input on this thread. We shouldn't be casting stones about the Little League Umpires that volunteer their time and as far as the Regions and Little League are concerned are experienced enough to umpire the games they are umpiring. Except for some post season I don't volunteer much free games to Little League. But I do know some Western Region guys (BTW IMHO Western Region is the best trained) I would gladly work any where with. They have worked Regionals and World Series. There is getting to be a problem with some guys not even wanting to go to umpire regional's any more, no less the World Series because of the TV coverage. They are not Professional Umpires. They are Little League Volunteers and what they do and what you see must be fine by Little League, or they would not be there. That is my :2cents: You can agree or disagree with LL and the LL Umpiring Program. The thing is, it is what they want it to be.

No, there are a segment of the umpiring world that does. The reason I don't like them: 1. The color is a horrible shade 2. The color matches nothing else 3. They look like Dickie work pants 4. They come from Gerry Davis 5. Most have three belt loops in the back, it looks silly and most miss one then regularly 6. The side belt loops are placed oddly so it kicks your ball bags on your butt instead of your hips Reasons to like them: 1. They are well made which means they last so they be ugly for several years 2.?????

You should use the same mechanics every time but that is a different thread.

Yes I normally do watch for BR touch and listen for the pop, then look for control (in that order), but in this case because it was not a banger (throw beat him) I guess I took my eye off the runner's touch, and went straight to the glove and skipped the pulled foot, as it appeared he had stretched out before the ball arrived, so he was comfortably in contact with the bag, instead of stretching out as the throw arrives, which may pull him off the bag

I respect your opinion, but how "high quality" can 12U really be? Neither here nor there at this point. If you judge the step to be intentional, then I suppose you can get the Malicious Contact out(s). You'll also have to eject. If it's not intentional, I don't think you have any type of interference.

Completely agree. Waste of money in my mind to retro shins. The point of the Wendy concept is to minimize impact to the head. That being said, I will likely get one of my CP's retro fitted...probably my Gold that I haven't worn in over a year. Furthermore, you can do what you wish with your money. Post pictures if you ever get it done.   Or, you could get your Unequal retrofitted for that 'extra' level of protection?!?      ..........

I was up at the Western/Northwestern San Bernardino last weekend. These guys are TOLD to be robotic and that they will be on TV, they are told what to do and to NOT SUCK. For many of them they have never worked a 6 man crew and they work hard for hours before the game preparing. They are in a little dorm at a table and learning assignments and doing the best they can. I talked to a few of them. They are volunteers and have taken a weeks vacation to be here and to work games. (ZERO $$) I think they get free water. So if they mess things up, that's normal, same as big leagues, but we see it more because it's on TV. When I get out there I will be more worried about the ripping I will get here then what might happen on the field!!

It's not a better angle, your just not wanting to change your maybe do it the way its being taught.. its taught that way for a reason, and that puts us in the best spot to see the tag/ foot getting in...

I turned on the TV tonight and watched the Wiconsin/Illinois game for about an inning and it was all I could take. For starters the home plate umpire was a conservative 300 lbs and with his body mic on you could hear him "laboring" throughout. I watched as there were multiple hits and runners moving and he never took his "bucket" off his head. There were also some uniform discrepancies that I noticed. The home plate umpire was wearing heather grey pants with a dark grey colored ball bags. The other (5) umpires looked like there was some wearing heather grey and some wearing dark grey. Their light blue shirts were also mismatched as some had the RW&B and some had Blue&Black. I think one constant is the "over exagerated calls" that are made. HUGE strike and out mechanics used. I guess this could be attributed to the excitment of being on TV. I am not trying to knock LL but it seems like every year when they have these games, even up to the finals, the crews almost appear sloppy. I know that these guys aren't paid so it shows dedication on their part to be there, I just can't imagine myself going on TV without making sure that I looked my very best.

When I say "we" in that I'm talking about Australians (or at least New South Welshman) have that as the standard signal for it. I've often been told Australian pinkie fingers are cuter than American ones. Can't prove it but heard it before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's interesting that he apparently gave the correct signals for the situation, so he new what signal was associated with what situation! Yet he did not know what the signal signified. That's similar to knowing what words to use in answer to specific questions, but not understanding the meaning of the question or the answer! On one level, it's an amazing feat. On another level, it's just plain terrible.

My contention is this. The rules of the league require the teams to pay each umpire, in cash, before the game whether they're a not-for-profit entity or not. I understand the concept of receiving a check, cashing/depositing it, and moving on. However, the OP was about a bounced check. If the order of events...receiving, cashing, funding are in line, it's all good. But, the risk of an NSF check is always there... That's why I don't accept checks.

But have you done a combine demolition derby? I have done two. Lawn mower racing, check. Welcome to the site. As much as I have wanted to, it hasn't been in the cards. I have yet to have the cash to throw down on a combine to destroy. However a local dealer always stocks up for this event, so hopefully I will soon!

I think we all have this mistaken impression that these RATS are paying attention at the plate meeting.

I have had many coaches, some I have had to eject, later apolgize to me for their actions. I get it, it can get emotional and competitive. Take the good with the bad. I always remain the gentleman and shake their hand and tell them I appreciate their honesty.
