it happens to the best that have a lot of post season assignments. don't want to be picking on others that don't get them and not show the special events guys when a conundrum occurs or a claustramessfor them. what would happen if umpire had been in the infield grass. is that illegal in this situation or is there a choice. and hasn't some mentioned, what we permit we promote in the insuing aftermath from the pitcher to the umpire. should it be handled this way at all levels of play. what would or would not be expected for the umpire to do when the pitcher did what he did and not when the umpire had his back turned nor did the pitcher.

Here is my takes on what @834k3r had to say. Differences in Orange. Plate shoes - Reebok Magistrates. Heaviest of any out there now, but comfort and feel is 10000% the best IMO Indicator - AS 4-dial cast metal. It's a bit heavier, but it's bulletproof, and with the notches I don't need to look at my indicator during a game. Ever. 100% agree Plate Brush - Japanese style. Once you've tried it, you won't go back. Took a bit to get used to, but I love mine. Base shoes - I converted to Nike Golf shoes a few years ago. Available in WIDE sizes, and many of them offer waterproof guarantees. The ones that do not are lightweight and breathable Shirts and Pants - I won't go back to Smitty after wearing GD. There is no substitute for GD shirts/pants. Personal - OG Thighpro with a Diamond MMA in the pouch. I am partial to the ThighPro, but always appreciate the recommendations!

For completeness CCS left out a pertinent exception regarding a runner in contact with his base. The OP does not have that condition but it had the potential to have been a factor. The runner contacted the fielder's glove about a foot from 3B so we don't have a runner in contact with his base. "Rule 6.01(a) Penalty for Interference Comment: A runner who is adjudged to have hindered a fielder who is attempting to make a play on a batted ball is out whether it was intentional or not. If, however, the runner has contact with a legally occupied base when he hinders the fielder, he shall not be called out unless, in the umpire’s judgment, such hindrance, whether it occurs on fair or foul territory, is intentional. If the umpire declares the hindrance intentional, the following penalty shall apply: With less than two out, the umpire shall declare both the runner and batter out. With two out, the umpire shall declare the batter out."

These two gentlemen have solid opinions, and I tend to agree with them. I do diverge slightly on the accoutrements. Plate shoes - Mizunos. The Japanese model if you don't mind hitting up eBay. I actually find the standard width NB toebox too narrow, and the Mizunos are a huge improvement (YMMV). Indicator - AS 4-dial cast metal. In my opinion, the price of the very best equipment is incrementally more or the same as their nearest competitor. There really isn't the Ferrari/Lamborghini equivalent that is a "if money was no object" purchase. Chest protector: Davis DX Enduro D30 ($299.99) - basically the same price as the Force3 V3 Mask: Davis Mirage 12 ($299.99) - incrementally more expensive than the All-Star FM4000 Magnesium Shin guards: Force3 Ultimate ($129.99) - cheaper than the West Vest and RIPE for some next generation innovation Plate shoes: New Balance 460 for wide feet, Mizuno Pro Wave for the thin boys (~$150) There's certainly an opportunity to splurge on pants as the higher end versions are 2x the Smitty pants. I don't quite have my mind wrapped around the different offerings so I can't provide any advice there. Where you can go crazy...if you're on turf a lot, there are several nice Jordans on the market that make for fancy pants base shoes. I think its fun and there's an opportunity to break out of the basic New Balance default that most folks have.

I'll bite. I'll try to keep to one set of gear for simplicity. CP: Davis DX (doesn't matter which one, I like them all honestly) but UL flex harness has to be included on it Masks: Davis Mirage and a Nike Ti (just because I still love it's appearance, but the Mirage would be my gamer), I really like the Davis blacked-out mask harnesses too, even more than my UL flex Shins: Force3 for lightweight and safety, but still wish they were lower profile like my AS Cobalts to show less under my pants, stock harness is fine here for me too Shoes: Reebok Magistrates for plate and not picky on the bases, there are a lot of good options now Belts: Boston patent leather and Core Energy Indicators: 3 dial oversize, can be plastic I'm not picky, just an oversized 3 dial please Personal: Diamond MMA jock & cup (best I've ever worn, doesn't move)

If money was irrelevant and you could simply buy without stress or budgetary concerns, what would you buy and where would you buy/get it from? thinking primarily equipment as opposed to apparel, but anything is fair game. Masks, chest protectors, shin guards, shoes, belts, indicators , all fair game.

Got basically 3 things coming to our offerings. The shoe furthest to the left is what I am guessing is what UA shows. 1. Plate shoes in all black 2. Shoe 2nd from left 3. And below

There’s another post about these. The Purchase Officials catalog is calling these Mizuno pro umpire turf patent. It appears they will be available at UA, Purchase Officials, and Davis (and probably more places) in 2027. It’s not clear if these are the exact shoes the MLB guys are wearing as @Chris Hickman indicated these were a special order from Mizuno’s Japan custom shoe program. I’d doubt they are the exact same but look similar.

Just saw an Ump-Attire Facebook post that looks like there is a black patent leather Mizuno base shoe coming out. Does anyone know what these are called? Are they available on the Japan market? Can we get them in the US through eBay? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

retrosheet dot org--- click at the top on people, then click on umpires----other site is stevetheump but i believe the site is down now. that site had minor league umpires and their leagues going back to 1999 and the MLBU crews, playoff MLBU crews and other info, umpire media guides etc. and if you click on an umpire in retrosheet, and sporting news umpires category shows up, they have some history on umpires minor league careers (but it looks like they stopped those cards about the time O'Nora started in the 80's. hope this helps. there are probably others with tons of resources.

No LL exception (baseball nor softball). Runner hit by a batted ball before through or by and no other fielder with a chance to make a play is an out.

In softball this is not an out - I believe in all rulesets - due to the smaller basepaths and the limitations in leadoff capabilities, the runner is more likely to be hit by a ball while still on base. (although, I do not think LL minors baseball has this exception)

I am really impressed with the numbers being thrown around for so many MLB umpires and their career stats. The information like the number of callup games is detailed and, in many cases, has some age to it. On behalf of the many who may not have the courage, ignorance, and/or self awareness, where are you all getting the data?

He can't be called for interference with a fielder unless intentional. But why can't he be called for being hit by a fly batted ball, other than an Infield Fly, that satisfies the rule.

If the ball in bounding, the base is not a safe haven for being hit by a batted ball. So, if the runner would have been out if he was off the base, he's out if he was on the base. If it's a fly ball, the runner need not leave the base, but he can't intentionally interfere.
