Adult ladies fastpitch softball last night. Pitch comes in about shoulder high she swings an fouls it over catchers shoulder straight to the nutty buddy. I went down, it must have hit on the side because there was considerable pain. However I was back on my feet again and resumed the game in about 5 or 6 minutes with no after effects. Thats the first time i've taken a cup shot in at least 20 yrs, and yes it hurt like hell.

I will not be drawn into the numerous comments that could be made in this situation, I WILL NOT do it... :P

Never heard if anyone getting hurt with a nutty buddy. Must have been defective!

I got hit in the NB with a hard foul ball bouncer, also in a softball game.  It hurt a little at first but nothing like it would have with a standard cup.  It took probably less than a minute to regain my composure and for the small amount of pain to go away.  It was a very loud crack, and my partner came running in as soon as it happened.  He was ready to go put his plate gear on...

After the game he was on his phone ordering one for himself, he could not believe I was able to continue after that shot!

I was working a LL game and my partner had the plate. Well a pitch hit the dirt, got past the catcher and got him under the cup, it took a little while to gain his composer and we played on. When we had our post game I showed him my NB and thats all he needed to see to make him order one.

I took a curve ball to the pills a few weeks ago with the NB on. I don't know if I had it on wrong or what but it hurt. I took a good minute or two to regain my composure, but felt the after-effects for another two or three innings.

Made me question what the difference would've been if I wasn't wearing it.

i was working a Fast pitch tourney a couple weeks ago and took one off the side and was in a little bit of pain but will agree with 3rdGEN, was not nearly as bad as it could have been...unlike his story my partner stood out in the field with his thumb somewhere unmentionable :P

I know this thread is somewhat old but I didn't want to start a new one.  My Nutty Buddy was tested today for the first time .  U12 batter fouled one straight into the boys this afternoon.  After my initial shock wore off,  I resumed the game with no ill effects.  Lots of groans from the assembled patrons.  The Nutty Buddy was my best investment in equipment this year.

@Typhoon, yea side shots hurt. I took one in a 13-15yr old game, a breaking pitch in on the handle gets fouled back into my upper inner thigh that shot straight into the side of my shock doctor. After about a minute I was ok.

Took a good shot (are any of these shots actually "good"??) while wearing the NB the other night.  Foul ball ricochets off the dirt and hits me square in the NB.  Got a good reaction from the catcher and the crowd.  My partner in "B" even asked if I were okay.  Honestly barely felt a thing.  Great product!

15U game yesterday.  F1 throws a 59 foot slider.  F2 tries to slide and block to no avail and it hits my Nutty Buddy.  An audible "ohhhhhh" from the stands and dugouts, but there was no pain.  Just one more testimonial for the NB!

I forgot to wear a cup last Friday for the first time in my 19 years as an umpire. I made a bench player let me use his. It was like trying to fit a king size mattress into twin sheets. After the game I put it on the team bench as the coach was huddling the team in shallow left field. As I was leaving the field I made sure to yell loud enough for all to hear, "Hey, I left your thimble on the bench". And a good time was had by all.

Response: "keep it...you may need it again to cover your vag gina"

I'm have trouble imagining how you "made" a youth player hand over his cup.

I guess the kid had to sit out the whole game.

It was a high school fall ball game and he had just come out of the game. I discovered I wasn't wearing one when I was in the cutout at 3b and the throw hit the lip and was taking a direct line at Elvis and the boys. I quickly threw my mask over the area and realized the error of my ways. I will say that I had taken about five shots to my mask in the last week, including one that day, which I believe had affected me without taking it seriously. I realized it when I went to the grocery store after the game and realized I had left the car running as I entered the store to get my cart. My jaws are finally starting to relax and my ears aren't clogging up near as much. I wear a low profile Wilson titanium mask with TW pads, but will be buying a different mask soon.

Probably sized wrong!!! :question1:

I am curious if I have the wrong size.  I am 5'10, 180 so I purchased the Trophy.  I wear it correctly, but there is still a decent amount of discomfort when running and the shot I took kept me on one knee for several minutes and affected me for a couple innings after the impact.

As you can see from the picture, the ball hit towards the top of the NB, yet the boys got it.  I don't know if that is a sizing issue or what.  The next size down is supposed to be for a max of 5'8 and 170 and I don't want to piss away $30 if I can't return the damn thing.  Guess I don't really have another option though.

Could be size, and it could be how you are wearing it.  IMO, if the NB is allowed to "droop" away from your body when in your stance, then you need to change something. If it's not tight against your body, the impact from baseball hitting the NB, and then the NB hitting the "boys" until the rubber edge hits your body will cause pain.

I do the following and have had good luck with it (including an up and under shot two weeks ago):

I wear boxer briefs and pull them up tight, then a regular Franklin jock strap (the ones they sell at Wal-Mart), and put the NB under the jock.  I then wear compression shorts and pull those up as tight as I can.  I then wear either UA heatgear or Eastbay leggings.

The compression shorts are the key for me.  When I get in my stance, which is fairly wide, I get minimal to no droop.

I wear compression shorts, NB, jock and then another pair of compression shorts.  I don't know if your word "droop" is similar to the "floating" that is advertised.  I do find myself adjusting myself A LOT during games.

Do you have any difficulty running?  I don't the the right word to use besides "restricting".  If I'm hauling ass down to 3rd I can definitely feel it.  Not painful at all, just annoying.
