rabbit ears - heads in the dugout

so why is it ok for players and coaches and managers to have rabbit ears and have those ears in the other teams dugout, when we crucify MLBU for hearing the venom spewed at them (the umpires themselves) and they are suppose to just ignore it, having them go walk up oneside of you and down the other with their venom and leave them in the game. blast the players and teams for rabbit ears also just like they blast umpires. good for the goose, good for the gander.

@dumbdumb, you’re on to something… but, in fairness, what the League does is the League’s business. If the participants want to act like clowns, and WWE “wrestlers”, and throw at each other, and “brawl”, then what say do we – outside the fence, despite being amateur umpires – have? 

Where this behavior and stance affects us is when amateurs carry it into their/our games, and are “shocked!” and “outraged!” when we “shut them down” – as we’re directed to do so by TPTB. 

Then you’ve got those noodle-spined PTBs that cave, and don’t support us when we do what they direct us to do. However, to be fair, in the absence of direction – published, enforced direction – we’ve gotta stop with this “not on my field, not on my game!” pedantry.

@dumbdumb...because MLB like all professional sports on this planet is in the entertainment business. They are not in the competitive sport business. Every decision on and off the field by MLB is driven by the impact of that decision on their profitability.

Although for all the talk about "pace of play" and the subsequent rule changes...I would enjoy hearing from Big Alcohol on how reduced game times have impacted stadium alcohol sales and consumption. For sure, baseball fans will simply pre-game or post-game and likely consume the same amount they would have at a 4 hour baseball game but, 4 hours of beer sales at the league average $7 is not the same as 2.5 hours at $7 prefaced and succeeded by an additional 2 hours at say $5 (for drinks purchased from a bar or grocery store for tailgate consumption...)

so sports are just choreographed baseball, football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, etc,etc.

smaller new type/unique stadiums= higher game ticket prices and concession prices and alcohol prices to make up for fewer seats with even a little more on top like icing on the cake factored/added in. guess they need more even after the sky box revenue. did they lower sky box prices and need to make it up elsewhere, or give a television rights discount from what it could have been.

Ehhh … I’m questioning statistics that appear questionable and do not provide their source data (unless you want to pay for it).

That site points to statista.com which does not openly provide its source data.  They do say that was August 2023 data.

I’ve been to Busch Stadium a number of times in the last several years … I haven’t ever seen a beer for $5.25.  Maybe I’m not looking in the right place.

I've been to Angels' games many times, and trust me, you cannot find a beer - ANY beer, for $4.50. A beer cannot be had there for less than $12.

I've been to a few MLB parks, and beers are nowhere near $4.50- $7.50. I was at the Sacramento River Cats ballpark last year, and the cheapest beer was a 12 ounce can of Miller High Life for $5.00 or $6.00. And you could only get it at one specific spot in the entire stadium, tucked away behind the fence in right field. Every other beer was way more. Minor league parks you can find some deals, but not at any MLB park I've been to.

I was at Dodger Stadium in 2016, and the cheapest beer even back then was $13.00! I even took a picture of the menu because I couldn't believe it.

And don't even get me started on the prices at Petco Park. That SH*#hole is an abject ripoff. I don't even go to see pro games of any kind unless I'm given the tickets for free. Most of it is because the concessions are absolute ripoff. I understand that when you go out, you pay a little more for food and drinks because restaurants and the like have overhead, and you're being served. But these MLB teams pay these whining crybabies millions of dollars to play a kids game, and yet make plenty of money regardless, and they still have the nerve to charge those prices!? Not to mention parking is a ripoff, too. 

Sorry, but I remember when going to the ballpark was affordable, even with taking your family. I'm a dyed in the wool capitalist and business owner, so I never begrudge anyone making a profit. But $15.00 for a cheap draft beer? You're just ripping me off.
