Does a run count if it's made on the same play as the 3rd out?

Question

Under what conditions can a run be scored on a play that results in a 3rd out for the team? I was under the impression that if a 3rd out happens, all runs that might have scored before time during that at-bat are invalid, but apparently there is more to it than that.

If the third out is a force out, or if the batter never gets to 1B, no runs score and the inning is over.

Otherwise, runs score when runners touch the plate before the third out id made.

example. 2 outs, R2, batter singles., tries to stretch it into a double and is tagged out. If R2 crosses the plate prior to the batter runner being tagged, the run would score.

Right from the rule book (and later in the rule are several examples that the OP should read)

5.08 How a Team Scores
(a) One run shall be scored each time a runner legally advances to
and touches first, second, third and home base before three men
are put out to end the inning.
EXCEPTION: A run is not scored if the runner advances to
home base during a play in which the third out is made (1)
by the batter-runner before he touches first base; (2) by any
runner being forced out; or (3) by a preceding runner who
is declared out because he failed to touch one of the bases.:

Even if the runner scores before batter is out?

If the runner scores on the play before the third out is recorded the run counts UNLESS:

1. The third out was a force; or

2. The third out was made on the batter before they have safely reached first base

Ok. The runner scores before the forced out batter or runner ?

1. Any baserunner forced out?

2. Batter forced out or tagged out?

Yes, any runner forced out.

Doesn't matter how the batter is put out - only if they are out before reaching first base (btw the definition of a force causes some issues with my answer, but I think it gets op the info they are looking for)

Let's clear up a couple of more misconceptions you might have here.   The batter-runner is never "forced out."   If you throw the ball to first before he gets there, he's out before he gets to first so no runs score.   That's why there are two cases in the "does the run score rule?"

Stepping on the bag to put someone out is not synonymous with a force out.    You can put someone out in a force situation by tagging them OR stepping on the next base.   The force is because they're forced to move forward by a following runner not the manner of putting them out.     Appeal plays (fly balls, for instance) are made by stepping on the base, but that isn't a force out.
