Getting quite a few messages about these powder coated Nike masks....

Once you let me know what color you want, it will take me about a week to get in in the mail...maybe sooner 

And as far as color goes....sky is the limit!

If anyone is on the fence... I just bought one of these from @Whosyourcaddy. I brought it to a friend's coin shop and he scanned it with a fluoroscopy x-ray. It came back as 99.99% titanium.

Just wanted to show off William Paschal's(minor league guy) new Mask.  He went with "flat black" powder coat and tan Team Wendy pads.  Pretty great looking set up!

Hey guys, I had the powder coater do a few extra "FLAT BLACK" Nike masks for me on a recent order....wanted to offer you guys on the message board them first.  I've got 4, and offering them at $250 each (including shipping).  First come first serve!

Bought a couple of the flat black Nike's from Mike.  Got here in 2 days and they are beautiful.  Never realized how light these suckers are.  Put some FM4000mag pads on it and am crrently waiting for an Umplife harness to be able to use it Saturday.  Thanks Mike.

Most everyone says so, especially since they're cheaper than a few years ago.  Mike has them at a good price (prices vary I see based on what he's got, sales, etc) .......   Are they worth it?   The All Star MAG comes in at $250 and is about as light (full mask) IIRC.  Like most equipment, it's a personal thing.

Any old sun shield will work. I had an All Star one on mine.

Yes ... STANDARD sunshield .... any of them will work, Honigs, All-Star, Markwort ...

Then you could do like some did and just buy both. Lol.  The All Star gets the comments. The Nike is more subtle.  @Whosyourcaddy is great to deal with.

I am now the owner of both.  Will wear the Nike Saturday.  Waiting for the Umplife harness.

As stated elsewhere on these forums. The sunshade does nothing to keep the sun out of your eyes. It is merely for looks or to keep the sun/rain off the bill of your cap.

What it did was stop the glint of the sun from sparkling in my eyes.  That's why I want it.

No, it doesn't because the brim of your hat is in the way ;)

Depends on length of hat brim, doesn't it?  A short bill may indeed get some benefit from a sun visor in place as it makes up the difference between mask and hat brim.

I don't agree with all these who say it does nothing except look good.  As vain as we umpires can be about our appearance, I don't think looks alone has kept them around all these years.

Any thing (visor) above your hat is providing additional shade to your head, which results in less heat transfer directly to your hat bill. As a side result, less heat/sun to your hat brim means you may have to squint less due to brightness.   In addition, it may help also block some sun (they are 100% UV rated) which may help keep your nose from burning out there doing multiple plates.

Does a visor make a huge difference? Probably not, but having had the experience of both wearing - and not wearing - a sun visor with my masks, I can definitely say there is a difference between having one and not having one in place.

And now, we can talk about how cool it looks too.

This...this...and this...all day long. @wolfe_man is absolutely correct here. I work a lot of games on a turf field with no trees where the clowns laid out the field so that the sun sets directly down anywhere between LCF and RCF. We routinely have to pause games here at sunset because batters, catchers and umpires cannot see the ball. Yes, it's only a 2" X 6" strip of shade across a navy or black cap but when you're working two or more plates on a day where the sun is beating down on you...it absolutely helps.

Wrong. The brim of your hat might stop some, but the glint is very much there.

I work ball in a desert in SoCal so the sun can be brutal at times.  The first time I put a visor on my FM4000MAG it was a noticeable difference.  People can say whatever they want but it makes a difference.

It's funny that this came up yesterday because I took some time and looked at some photos on Ump-Attire of masks being worn and sure enough, ... there are some spaces where the visor could help / block some sun that could seep through :nod:
