Ejection worthy?

NFHS rules. 12U youth baseball game. Batter is struck in the foot by a pitch. He tosses his bat well in front of home plate, slams his helmet down and jogs toward the mound, says a few words. Then catches himself and walks toward first base while staring at the pitcher who has never left the mound. I was telling a fellow coach that should be an immediate ejection. There was no ejection made.

I have ZERO issue with giving a coach a few moments (as I am in front of and between) to realize this "teachable moment".  As mentioned, coach better be already engaged (or on the way) by the time I look up for him.  You're the coach.  COACH your players on how to handle themselves in situations like this.  If Coach is hot footing his way out, I may wait to hear what he says.  If not and "sitting like a bump on a log", I'll give him some company on the aforementioned log.  It doesn't matter to me if there is a fine, or not.  Tournament eligibility, regular season wreck ball, etc.  This has NO place in youth sports.  You handle it immediately, or I will.

If I was behind the plate the bat toss would have been his ticket out of the game.   Right then right there..

Let the coach deal with the aftermath.. Not my reason to be on the field and should have been the coaches prerogative to let his players know what is acceptable on the field prior to getting into the game.

I agree those things aren't your problem.   They're MY problem.  Giving me a couple of seconds to show I'm dealing with it would be viewed much like a gift from Vito Corleone...I know I owe you.    In the long run, it's a gesture/show of respect that could define a rapport and mutual appreciation, potentially over many years.   And I would likely pay you back with blind trust and deference.

Having said that, if you were quick on the trigger, my response would be resignation...not much more.  Can't argue it...any coach that does deserves to join the player.

This one's a little tricky to show my intent, 'cause I gotta get my player to first before removing him - so I'm telling him to get his ass to first base, then I'd turn to you and pull out my lineup card...

If the coach doesn't react - then toss the kid.

@Rich Ives has it right. 

After any HBP, I have found great success in defusing stupidity on the batter's part by busting out between him and F1. If I need to play rodeo clown, making eye contact with HC to say either you take care of this or I will usually spurs them into action if they have not yet already. His actions guide mine.

And I am wrong why? If the coach, who should actually be paying attention is not IMMEDIATELY jumping on this at the bat slam, how long should I be expected to wait? 20 minutes? tomorrow? I guarantee as a youth BOD member, if this happened on my fields and it was not addressed, I would be hearing about it during the game... not tomorrow, not after breakfast, now. 

Seriously, 12 YO's are LL Majors...  If they pull this and the coach is not jumping on this, then my failure to act is just endorsing the coaches mentality that it is ok. Standards and expectations must be different in where you coach versus where I live.
