Idk but I just paid big bucks for one. I hope it's not bent or a scammer. I've noticed a lot of them available too. One guy was in my hometown and refused to meet me to sell it directly. He's posted multiple masks. I think he's a scammer.

Heh, I sure as hell minded...ditched that anvil after two plates and sold it at a loss. One of the worst investments in plate gear I've ever made.

Went back to Wilson and Nike Titaniums with Team Wendy and am none the worse for wear facing 90+ stuff regularly.

I love my Defender V2

The extra weight is meaningless. It's not that much heavier.

 

But whichever mask you have please please wear a throat guard. Or maybe that's to heavy as well??

I found the throat guard to be an annoyance. Then I saw a couple people had moved it, so instead of hanging off the bottom of the extended chin, it was under the chin and closer to the body. After thinking about it, it makes more sense, as it is positioned better if I look up, and it makes it more difficult for a ball to sneak up under the chin guard if I'm looking forward. Plus now it doesn't swing around as much, which was my main annoyance.

It's really not that bad. Just wear it tight. I moved the side straps up as much as possible so the pads didn't shove my cheeks between my teeth.

The second version is lighter than the first version. It's a great mask. I own everything Force 3 except for the tights.

I, too, found the Defender V1 to be heavy, and this is coming from a guy who caught in MSBL and farm system ball with a Rawlings PWMX which is vinyl-dipped solid steel wire. A great deal of the weight in the DfV1 can be attributed to a fourth complete spring assembly and first attempt to construct mask pads. Those initial mask pads were dense and voluminous. The DfV2 drops one entire spring assembly down to three, placed much more strategically, and has much more refined pads. I'd be curious to see how the mask would behave with even lighter pads, constructed of such materials as gel-foam, TPU-EVA foam or whatever All-Star is using in their FM4000 mask. With the Defender, the pads are no longer the crucial functioning component – it's the springs, and making sure they have proper travel. Using Zorbium (Team Wendys) or high-end memory foam would be impractical overkill.

I would think it is ........

An All-Star FM25 weighs 21oz ....their Ti weights 19oz .....   to me, 30 would feel heavy, yes?  I'm not saying it is, I'm just basing it on what I know

8 to 9oz to me is nothing.

To some it may be. I think the protection it offers is well worth it.

The way the weight is distributed makes it seem like less weight.
