Is this a base coach or the manager?? This guy sure looks tons more aggressive than that Manager who touched/brushed/bumped an umpire and was ejected and suspended within the last 2 weeks. Were there any ejections on this or is this normal?? Did not show the whole argument on here. The whole crew has worked the Regionals for the last 4 years and 2 in the crew have worked a CWS. A lot of experience here. Don't these 2 teams get an 'at large' offer to the Regionals even if they do not win this tournament?

The third base coach is the one who runs up and appears to make contact with the PU as the head coach comes running in. If you watch the entire video you can see their third base coach leaving the field at the end of the game and it appears to be the same guy.

I didn't think the NCAA condoned this type of aggressiveness like the circus acts and theatre that are allowed and expected in the pro game. I thought they wanted a setting of collegiality and were very concerned about not letting the aggressive pro circus act get into the NCAA game. I cannot believe the umpires are expected to have to condone over the top aggressiveness like this, and have to put up with it, to maintain their employment, so to speak.

I do not see anything in this altercation that is educationally redeeming. These are 'Institutes of higher learning', whether we or they like it or not, and the only thing I can see in this photo is the fact that if you don't like something in life or life doesn't go your way all the time, all you do is get road rage and get right in the person's face and press/brush/bump  your body against them and tell them so, and if you don't do this you are a pansy and looser in life, nor will you go anywhere in life. That is what I take away from this aggressive act of displeasure. Is this allowed in the classroom at this university if the student does not agree with the professor. You jump out of your chair and go press/brush/bump against the professor and violently scream/and possibly expectorate right in their face to show your displeasure. Do you do this to the President of the University when you do not agree. How about at all the companies of employment. Is this how you show your opinion at work when you disagree. Just what "educationally" did I miss from this altercation. Squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Once again, this is not the pros, where this type of behavior is apparently the norm and expected and condoned from time to time. I just thought there was a difference. I think in the old days the University coaches and managers were educators themselves. Guess they are just hired guns, so to speak now, without any care in the world about how they represent the "educational institution" i.e. employers that employ them. They could care less about how they represent their Universities of Higher """Learning""""" could they?

Pity the poor umpires who are just punching bags for this type of Educational Lessons from the Educators and School Representatives.

Not even a close call. How can a high level ACC guy miss that?

There was no EJ's

Because if you watch closely he has his back to the play after he rang up the batter. Starts to turn around, and BOOM. Play blows up on him.

Some umpires want to use fancy showoff mechanics then this happens.

Yeah, looks like the arm got in there under the catcher. I bet it exploded in his face. There better be 3 outs if you are turning your back to the field on a strike 3 call.

Very good video to learn from, might have to add this to my umpire video collection.

If I were a betting man......I'm sure we will see this clip again at the 2015 NCAA clinics....

I think that bet is so safe, you don't need to be a betting man to take it. More like an investment...

First thing I thought when watching the video.

I can see not ejecting the runner. Maybe he didn't see him chuck the helmet...who knows. I don't work anywhere near the ACC so maybe I'm completely unqualified to even ask this, but how is the third base coach not ejected here?

The NCAA doesn't condone it at all. I am sure the conference supervisor and the NCAA would back the umpires if two ejections took place here.

maybe he wasn't ejected and got a LONG rope because he knew the play blew up on him, and may have missed it?

purely speculation

I get that, but at the point where he is chest-to-chest with you, I think the rope runs out.

I think that's likely to be included in the training film. ;)

Do you guys in the know, think the video will be shown just about the mechanics end of pointing and turning to the side and the ramifications of what can happen with that style. IMHO it looks pretty dorky to look straight ahead square to the pitcher and do the point out to the side. The fist up looks the best when one uses the straight ahead position. So effectively, that needs to be the only style one can use much like the women's softball.

What about the coaches actions. Will this just be handled by the NCAA by telling the schools this type of aggression is unacceptable? Will they tell the umpires this is OK and no ejection should occur or their schedules could possibly be affected, or will they tell the umpires that an ejection should occur and if not, their schedules will possibly be affected, or at least for post season they will be affected. What will the conferences say to their AD's about these type situations.

Personally, even if all the memos in the world tell the umpires to use restraint and not eject for this type of situation no matter what, if I were the AD of this school, this coach would be getting time off in addition to whatever penalties or non-penalties the NCAA or Conference might be handing out. In addition, as President of this Institution, I would be closely monitoring the AD's (my own) and Conferences response, and if nothing were done, this is where I would step in, in the best interests of the University since the AD, Conference and NCAA has no intestinal fortitude, and politely give this gentleman a nice little vacation in addition to having a nice sit down conference at a place of his choosing, to go over my expectations of putting the University in the best light at all times, and that this incident did not even come close to those expectations. I would never say he couldn't argue, but if this video was the only way he could show his displeasure when he disagrees and he could not change, then maybe I could help him procure employment where that deportment/sportsmanship is the norm and expected reaction to anything in life unfavorable in their eyes.

This video and the UF-FSU video are the surest bets for next spring.
