Here's the association in CT I'll be joining this year: Uniform Regulations Black and Charcoal (Default Uniform) Pants - Charcoal Gray (Gerry Davis Only) Shirt - Black with white stripes, short or long sleeve T-shirt/Turtleneck - Black Jacket - Black with white stripes Fitted Hat - Black Ball Bags - Black Socks - Black Belt - Black Shoes - Predominantly black (white stripes or trim is fine) State Patch - attached to the left breast pocket or equivalent location, (available at our meetings) PS: Varsity $87.12 per ump per game; Sub-Varsity $56.63 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2

Well, there's one way to ensure @mstaylor never works games in CT!

FWIW, in the Orange County HS unit, the uniform requirements are:

If you are working alone, any professional umpire shirt color is acceptable. If you are working with a partner, any professional umpire shirt color you agree on is acceptable. If you can’t agree, you should wear the Default Uniform: Black shirt [no numbers], black or white undershirt, black fitted cap [plain, no logos], black shoes, black socks, black belt. Your outer garment, whether a shirt, jacket or otherwise, must display the official CBUA patch either on or directly above the left breast pocket [or where the pocket would be on a garment without a pocket] for every game. Violation of this policy may result in removal of remaining games on your schedule. Dark Gray umpire slacks, –not heather gray.

Quite right, I wouldn't be caught dead on a field with GD pants on.

What's the matter with GD pants, other than they really don't match poly wools.

they are UGLY! They look like Dickie work pants, and they don't hold their color.

Missouri is definitely antiquated when it comes to uniforms, but I would throw a fit if they made people buy $55 sublimated umpire shirts.  That takes some real balls to mandate that people spend over $100 for a couple of shirts for high school baseball.

All in how much you get paid.

Is Alabama (Or whoever it was, I forgot now) paying $80-$90 per game?  I just don't like that state governing bodies are using umpires to make a profit.

Varsity pays $60/game. $47 for JV, $42 for MS. All of these come with an $8/date travel fee.

Mississippi:

Varsity: Plate: $65 Base: $60

JV/MS: $35 (MS games are usually played as doubleheaders which leads to $70 a night)

LL: Depends on age. $25-$40 a game

Dixie:$40 I believe

I wish they would up pay for JV games. It's almost a wash for younger guys that only work a JV game in a far away town.

And Ms doesn't have a restriction on shirt color I don't believe. We stick to the "big 3" Navy, Black, or Pro Polo Blue. Our association recommends Black for first year guys. Charcoal pants only. They recommend all black shoes, but mine have white in them. I haven't heard anything and I've stood and talked about them with my assignor before a game before. As long as they're cleaned and shiny. Hats match shirt color. Black hats worn with Pro Polo Blue. Same with ball bags.

Some states get way to involved in the local groups. In our group our default uniform is dark blue and grey pants. I personally despise the dk blue with charcoal. I carry extras of black, cream and polo blue, as well as an extra black jacket. You don't have it, I do, I will avoid the dk blue at all costs. If we were still wearing heather, no problem with dk blue, it looks sharp with them.

I know that this has turned into a "this is how we do things in our area" sort of discussion but I would be careful about listing association fees on a public message board. With just a little bit of research this sort of information can and will be used to undercut your current association by either another group or a league/school commissioner looking to save some money.

As far as state mandated shirts, the next time two schools want to cancel a game because the umpires are wearing black shirts instead of dark blue shirts I would imagine will be the first time. (Obviously keep in mind who signs your checks and what they want, hopefully that person is not the state organization that mandates these rules)

The real question would be "Would you be caught alive on a field with GD pants?"

If you were already dead, you'd have much bigger problems than the pants you were wearing!

Is TX going to allow the pro style black and lt blue shirts this year? The past 2 years, we've worked split crews in the playoffs and lots of guys asked us if we had them.

They are allowed by our chapter in Beaumont and the state website allows them. Who is telling you that you can't wear pro blue? Black is the new official TASO base color effective in 2015 or 2016. So, that is clearly allowed.

I don't guess that anyone is telling us we can't...just that nobody has them. Maybe it is a local issue.

I think there is confusion. Did TASO ever approve the new MLB style powder and black (the ones with the piping on the sides)?

We know black and the pro blue old style mlb are approved. It would make sense for TASO to approve them as long as you match your partner.

I couldn't work games in Mississippi, I guess.

I turn down any assignment where they pay the plate umpire and the base umpire different amounts.  They do that for some youth ball here and I will tell those people flat out why I'm turning them down.  I'll even say this if I was planning on turning them down for other reasons.

I work my share of plates and probably some other people's share of plates, too, so that's not the issue either.

I totally agree with Rich.  Both umpires are equally important to administering the game, and should be paid the same.  Thankfully around here, both are always paid the same.  I've never worked a game here where that didn't happen.

If we call together this year lets wear the new style. I have both colors

New Mexico:

Powder, Navy or Black shirts(just match partner)  with Charcoal pants.  Pullover is Black as preferred but navy is allowed.  Black hat and blacks socks.  Shoes are predominately black, can have white/silver accents.

They have not allowed red because that is the USSSA color and they don't want people thinking the umpires are coming from "that level" is how it was put.

Log into the TASO website and click on Taso baseball operating procedures link and on page 20 it lists all approved colors and combinations that may be worn during a UIL sanctioned game.

The new pro style solid black with white piping down the side (not on sleeves and collar) and solid powder blue with black piping down the sides

ARE NOT ALLOWED to be worn while working High School games.

In Missouri the one of the last sentences regarding uniforms is that both officials must match.  In my mind that allows my partner and I to wear what we want to, and as a rule that holds true, at least until districts when navy rules.

NJ- Navy pullover, charcoal pants. Blue jacket, no stripes for state tourney. Red.white stripe OK for regular season.

And new this year..Black shirts/ jackets are allowed for regular season!!  :beerbang

Only problem I see...Very few of my assigned partners are going to have black shirts/jackets. Geez, I had to hear 'em bitching a few years ago when they had to get rid of their 8 year old heathers.

I would be a part of the very few who will not bitch!

I did not complain I was kinda happy personally they choose black as the alt color, I don't like powder blue reminds me of softball LOL sorry to anybody I offended.  I just received my black hats, jackets, ball bags and black shirt, the only one that complained was my wife LOL.  I Nipped that in the butt real quick! :D

Looks to me like as long as you can show you have those "mandatory" items... you can do whatever you want.

I don't see what the big deal is.  If an umpire crew looks professional and matches who cares if they were black or blue.  They don't tell teams that their shade of blue/green/red/whatever jersey doesn't meet state rules as long as they match.

I too am going to drop a letter to MSHSAA and urge them to get into the 21st century as it relates to umpire uniforms.  IMHO it should simply be required that both umpire's match.  Having that as a policy at least during the regular season would seem to please most everybody, the I'm never buying black shirts or charcoal pants people and the I have every color imaginable people.  I've made it a point to have at least one shirt in each of the more standard colors (black, polo blue, navy, red, gray, cream, even white (during legion games when it's hot).  I even have heather greys left over from the 1990's that I can wear if my partner doesn't have charcoal, but I'm a uni and equipment guy who has always set aside a few fees to add to my stash...
