Has anyone ever had a nightmare about umpiring?

 

Last night I had one where I noticed before the game that I was dressed for the plate but still wearing sneakers. I hustled back to the car to get plate shoes but couldn't find them.  I found shoes that were two lefts, pairs of my kids cleats, shoes I had NEVER seen before, but not my plate shoes.  Their were other umpires in the parking lot getting ready for other games and then the coaches started yelling for me.  

 

It woke me up.

 

Anyone else have umpiring nightmares?

Boy. That's a peachy dream compared to what goes in my head. The night after my first game I had dreamt I had gotten injured pretty bad...actually, pretty brutally, probably due to the fact that I didn't trust the gear I was wearing, but I wouldn't call it a nightmare. I haven't experienced more than one or two umpiring related dreams, probably due in part to the fact I rarely sleep...(It's 3:07 AM as I type this.)

I will occasionally have a nightmare where I'm late to a game or miss a game. I'll be stuck in traffic, and have to call my assigner to tell him I won't be able to make it. I always manage to wake up before the actual reaming occurs.

Had a nightmare that actually happened to me. Got assigned a game and didnt pay attention to the date on it because I was at work and just finishing my first break in hours. At about 10 to 4 my partner calls me asking where I was at. I instantly broke into a cold sweat and had to tell that I screwed up, didnt even have my gear with me, and was on the otherside of town even if I did.

I called my assigner in a total panic and told him that I F-ed up. Thankfully he was very understanding and found a guy to take my place.

To say I was mortified would be and understatement! Now I make sure to check.

Of course you are correct. I will be doing it this year as I want to be available as much as possible for my college assigner. I just did not read the date properly because I was in a hurry (thought it was the following Wednesday rather then that day).

I may have had a nightmare or two but I don't recall them. I did have a similar experience with an assignment. I was scheduled for a D-1 game, so I thought, that was 15 minutes from my house. I leave in plenty of time, get there, nothing, no teams, can't find the AD, no way to confirm what is going on. I assume for some reason they had shifted it to the other school's field, that was 90 minutes away, so I blew it off and went home. I called my assigner a couple of hours later to explain. The problem was they were at the other site, I wasn't assigned that game at all, I was assigned a D III game ten minutes from my house. So I missed that assignment too. It was an add on, before we assigned electronically, I wrote it down wrong because he had given me several games at once to cover. I took a two game suspension for the missed assignment.

LOL ,....no sorry ....what I'm saying is ......... if you don't have your stuff with you on any given day, ....then you're probably not available to take a game in the first place.  Meaning...you have another committment and can't work games that day, so, you don't have your stuff with you, because even if you did, and you were called, you can't do the game anyhow

 I thought for a second there (on your previous post) you were going all "Yogi Berra" on me ! But I follow what you are saying, now. The problem I have encountered, particularly with newer guys is the "I don't have a game today, I don't need my stuff" train of thought. Then I call them and they can't cover something.

OK- I'm losing my mind..

 

Last night's dream.  I'm AT BAT. Runner on. something happens with the runner..(unclear..pick off, SB, whatever) and there's contact of some kind (int, OBS), BU holds up his hands, calls time, motions for me to come out to talk to him, PU follows behind me, DT leaves the field and heads up the LF line and OT empties the dugout and runs up the RF line. The BU says to me, "you umpire. What would you call there?"

I have literally sleep walked where I got out of bed and starting umpiring.  The first time I did it, my wife was scared sh!tless.  Now, she just guides me back to bed. 

 

I swear to GOD that this is true.

 

I swear to god this has happened to me as well! I didn't sleep walk, but I have a very nice deep strike call... and one morning I was still in bed and my wife was in our bathroom getting ready for work...Our bathroom isn't far from our bed and I let my strike call rip and she broke her eye-makeup pencil because she jumped so high! She thought I did it on purpose to scare her. It wasn't until she came over to the bed to hit me for making her jump out of her skin that she realized I truly was sound asleep!
