I bought a pair of Reebok Zig base shoes from Honigs in May, and I love them...very comfortable to me and I think they look great. Over the past month, however, I've noticed that on the side near the bottom of the shoe, it looks like it's torn or peeling away from the sole of the shoe.

Has anyone else experienced this? Wasn't sure if its due to just normal wear and tear or something I should contact Honigs about. I guess when I bought the shoes, I expected them to hold up a bit better.

I'm seeing a lot of problems from the new Reeboks from other umpires. The New Balance nb1000bk are nice. They are trainers, but man are they comfortable.

Same exact problem, plus the spikes wear quick on the clay. Were very comfortable though..

I've worn mine about a dozen times. The white it chipping/peeling off the logo on one side.

Rich or Fla, did you contact Honigs or Reebok about the problem?  I'm wondering if they would replace them or something, I can't imagine that wearing them for less than 2 months is "normal wear and tear."

What are you guys cleaning them with? Chemical based cleaners will ruin them. Basic soap and warm water with a scrub brush works best.

Diluted Murphy's oil soap. I stopped using it after I saw the flaking begin thinking that may have caused it. With the season done until fall ball kicks in, I was considering contacting Reebok about it. My other concern is, the shoe is very narrow. I've kept shoe trees in them. That has widened them a bit and they feel real comfortable now. Perhaps stretched a bit too much with the trees causing the peel?

Soap and water for me...I think they just wear easily.

To clean them, I've strictly used water only and they clean up great...can't imagine that's what is causing the peeling though.

Yeah a friend and I had the same problem....poorly designed shoe with subpar materials used in production. They're a gimmick product almost. Was really surprised they're going to be available this year.

Have the plate shoe (all black, low cut) and the only issue I have had with them was first pitch, first game of last year had F2 step on them. Beyond that, love them.

That being said, have a friend that has the mid cut B/W Zig plate shoes and has had the metatarsal plate tear off the shoe twice on two different shoes.

I remener feeling pressure on top of my foot, looking down and seeing the puncture. I looked at my partner in A, throw my hands up and point at my shoes. He told me the 1BC asked him "whats up with your partner?" His reply; "dont know, but it probably isnt good." (Side Note: he said this with a huge smile on his face. )i
