Not if its (ruled) foul. Can't be ump INT if foul no matter where the fielders are.

Looking at the rulebook, the only time it is INT on the umpire is when he gets in the way of the catcher.  Anywhere else the batted-ball must hit the umpire for the INT call.  Am I missing something?

The interesting issue concerns "before passing a fielder." In this play, it passed one fielder but not another.

Yeh he "missed" it. Could have been his vision was blurred after the collision and getting clubbed in the head with the mitt!

What do they teach at the umpire school for this play so close to 1B that the 1BU is so close to 3 people. R1 on 1B, the F3, and the F4 moving over with everybody being in such a small area. Wouldn't the 1BU just point to the PU to take the ball and just pivot into the infield at the edge of the 1B cutout towards 2B to get out of the way, or at the least move straight towards 1B to get out of the way.

 

So shouldn't the 3BU either move straight towards 3B and turn around on the line to get the look, or point towards HPU to take the ball and pivot into the infield towards the cutout. Or, could he have moved straight back towards the outfield more and take the play with fielders between him and the plate rather than himself between home and the players. What do they teach.

The problem was he was watching the fielder in front of him and setting to call fair/foul, catch/no catch. All is good until the second fielder came in behind him and cut off any chance of him clearing.

At school any pop op that is close to fair territory is a pivot.. so pop up means pivot, Timmons should have stayed deep and let Pu take this F/F call...I bet he knows he messed up, but heck what can he do..

 

for you young guys a good thing to do with pop ups is look at the closet fielder to you and see where he is running to, then get out of his way.
