He got five games for the incident with Rob Drake... At the SEMUC camp, James Hoye actually specifically mentioned in our clinic that among the MLB umpires, there was extreme discontent and anger that he only got five games.

 

With this in mind, and knowing he is a repeat offender, I think he may get a decently long term suspension for this.

Throw your helmet out of disgust at yourself, you might get a little rope if the coach takes care of it right then and there. But, if you've already got a rep for tossing equipment, especially at another umpire, then you get nothing.

It's very specific in the MLBUM.  Throw equipment in protest of a call, you get dumped.

I saw an article on this where he said the out call was correct, and that he thought an EJ was not warranted here.  

 

Big boys should know you throw equipment (especially within a few feet of an umpire who just made a call against you), you're gone...

1) Good toss.

2) love how all the StL coaches are blaming Fagan (needs a feel for the game/situation, he was looking for something, blah blah blah) yet they never acknowledge the player going complete off the wall. Give a YGTBSM (see: Greinke/Holbrook) look and let the manager go ballistic.

3) good thing it was the last game of the series, could've been some interesting convos the next night between Fagan and Yadi.

I'll bet he gets nothing. They'll chalk it up to "being frustrated at himself" and a "rookie umpire taking it the wrong way and trying to make a name for himself."

It would be nice if fans had a clue before they post. Molina was thrown out on a nice play by the SS. The umpire made the correct call. Imagine that, the replay clearly shows it was correct, Molina says it was correct. Then he slams his helmet, clearly a violation according to established MLB rules and practices, for that he was tossed, again a correct call by the umpire. He has no idea, nor should he, whether Molina was mad at himself or the umpire. The simple fact is, if you throw equipment like that you will get tossed. The accepted mechanic is not to have further discussion with the player if possible. Manager comes out, has his say, said the wrong thing and got tossed, again accepted practice. So what we have here is three judgments by the umpire, all correct, two three actions by the player/manager, incorrect and two tosses. If Molina had taken his punishment like a man instead of a petulant child he would have been out of that game and no talk of suspensions. The manager may or may not have gone far enough to get tossed, likely not. So there is no room for them to be mad. It has absolutely nothing to do with a young umpire trying to make a name. As a matter of fact, ejections, or the wrong kinds, will get you released.

I just went over to the St. Louis Cardinals email contact page and sent them a nice little message that what Molina and Mattheny did Sunday was reprehensible. I also mentioned to them that kids mimic their actions and what they did in a few seconds can take weeks or months to correct and deal with. I also told them Molina and Mattheny should immediately apologize publicly to the umpires and to fans everywhere. This type of behavior has to stop. Just because you are a millionaire does not mean you get to treat people with disrespect!

 

Here is the email link. I urge all of you reading this to do the same and send them a nice little email complaining. Stick to the facts and let them know it is not acceptable. Like it or not, they are role models and they are exhibiting poor behavior.

I respectfully disagree. Judging by how the behavior is getting, I'd say a lesson is definitely being learned. That is, do whatever you want. Nothing is going to happen to you.
