If the game consisted of only the pickoff attempt and the double, then, yeah, that miss cost the Phillies the game.

But, there is much more to a game.  Can't say that one miss determined the outcome.

Never bought into the pre determined outcome. Who's to say the same pitches are thrown and the same results occur if F1 is throwing with an R2

No such thing as a predetermined outcome. If there is then might as well just flip a coin.

Looks to me like they should have been still been tied (unearned run scored) if Delmon (I throw bats at umpires) Young had not made an E from the play by play in the 2nd inning.

"Logan Schafer singles on a ground ball to right fielder Delmon Young. Aramis Ramirez scores. Jonathan Lucroy scores. Logan Schafer to 3rd. Throwing error by right fielder Delmon Young.

I see the pitching line that says 3 runs but only 2 earned runs. Wonder how that happens??? Sounds like a terrible miss by a player costs the Phillies the game.

Oh, and lookey here. 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position(RISP). Oh my 10 runners LOB (left on base).

Team RISP: 1-for-10.
Team LOB: 10.

And what the heck is he even getting close to getting picked off.

Terrible playing for the 2nd night in a row costs the Phillies the game IMHO.

I think Segura's action here is unethical, like a flop in basketball or soccer.

How do you feel a player trying to prove something he knows is false?

Because that's the nature of players and coaches. Bend the rules. It's not cheating unless I get caught.

I really don't see this as at terrible call, it is a missed call. The ball came loose on the backside of the runner, umpire is highly unlikely to see this. Announcers saw the replay from that side and didn't catch the drop until the second view. As a fan, tough break for them, but in the big picture, nothing.

The only way 1 call can cost a team the game is if both teams are throwing Perfect Games....

They weren't, therefore 1 call isn't the difference.

The runner was too busy looking at the ump for the call, or else he would have seen the dropped ball.

That's one of those plays where you see a fielder make a catch with his glove, then temporarily the glove is out of view, then the fielder comes back with the ball in his bare hand, instead of his glove! Its a red flag.

Agreed. Do you think it would have been caught by the guys in Red Jackets when you were just a youngster.

I'm sorry, but I've always found this, line of thinking nonproductive. It was a bad miss. It was at a really inopportune time. I'll never say it cost the Phillies the game, but it sure cost them an opportunity. To try to turn it back on the Phils is ridiculous. JMO.

No. A single call can never cost a team a game. There are, at a minimum, 52 opportunities in a baseball game. One opportunity will never outweigh the other 51. Even in a dual perfect game, the lack of production in each opportunity is more of an impact (due to good pitching/defense and/or poor hitting) than any singular call (or play, for that matter.)

Sure it can. Team up 4-3, nobody on, batter grounds to short, throw beats him to the base, but he's incorrectly called safe. Next guy up hits a walkoff HR to win 5-4. The incorrect safe call cost the team the game.

Yes, it's a missed call....but I bet you EVERY SINGLE PERSON on this board, along with any other MLB umpire IN THAT SAME SITUATION....with the SAME POSITIONING gets an out on this play because the dropped ball is not seen.  It's that simple.... you can't call what you don't see

I know you are a Philly fan, no accounting for taste, :) but I am taking this as somewhat tongue in cheek.

I'm a fan, yes, but I'm always a bigger fan of the umpires.  It was a bad miss not because it happened to the Phils, but because it was an unfortunate thing that happened to a guy probably already on the bubble for getting released.  Clueless idiots are going to point to this (which could've happened to anyone) as proof that he doesn't belong in the show.

I'm probably calling him out, too.  I've seen those that said that they'd call him safe because there's no way that he could've gotten the ball from the glove to the hand that quickly, but if I don't see the bobble/ball on the ground, I'm not assuming that it was on the ground, either.

Yes, but we aren't supposed to start perfect and get better with every game! :rock
